“False, Baseless”: Industrialist Sajjan Jindal On Rape Charge Against Him

JSW Group Managing Director Sajjan Jindal has been accused in an alleged rape case. A statement issued on behalf of Mr Jindal has called the allegation “false and baseless”. The statement says Mr Jindal will fully cooperate with the investigation, but since the probe is ongoing, he will refrain from saying anything more.

A 30-year-old doctor has made the allegations against Sajjan Jindal. A First Information Report has been registered in Mumbai in this regard following a court order. The woman claimed the police did not register an FIR even after several months of the complaint.

In the FIR, the woman has claimed that she met Sajjan Jindal in Dubai during an IPL match in 2021. Mr Jindal, she claimed, had promised to marry her. In the FIR, the woman has alleged that Mr Jindal raped her on January 24, 2022.

Trains, Flights Hit After Heavy Rain In Tamil Nadu, More Showers Predicted

Extremely heavy rains unleashed floods across four districts of southern Tamil Nadu, disrupting normal life in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts of the state.

Thiruchendur in the Tuticorin District witnessed 60 cm of rain in just 15 hours till 1:30 am. Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli District recorded 26 cm. Meanwhile, Kanyakumari saw 17.3 cm of rainfall.

A public holiday has been declared today in the affected districts due to the torrential rains. Schools, colleges, banks, private establishments and public sector firms will be shut.

Knee-to-waist-deep water submerged pockets of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari districts as water is released from Papanasam, Perunjani and Pechuparai dams. River Thamaraparani is in spate. The district collectors have been advised to ensure proper management of water in dams.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall today as well. A cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area is exacerbating the situation.

Chief Minister M K Stalin today deployed ministers and senior bureaucrats for relief and rescue operations, with a senior bureaucrat assigned to monitor each affected district. Mr Stalin also instructed District Collectors to keep relief centres and boats prepared in vulnerable areas and evacuate people early if required.

Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams comprising 50 members each have rushed to Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts, while three State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed in Kanyakumari district.

In addition, 4,000 police personnel have been deployed in the affected districts.

Fishermen are strongly advised to avoid venturing into the sea at high windspeed, ranging from 40 to 55 km.

The floods in southern districts have struck even as Chennai and three adjoining districts are recovering after floods triggered by heavy rains cyclone Michuang brought as it crossed the region on the 3rd and 4th of this month.

Tuticorin-bound flights have been diverted or cancelled. Seventeen trains including the Vande Bharat train to and from Tirunelveli have been partially or fully cancelled.

Car Crashes Into Joe Biden’s Motorcade In US, President, First Lady Safe

A car crashed into a vehicle attached to Joe Biden’s motorcade on Sunday, with the security scare startling the US president as he left his campaign headquarters in Delaware.

After a loud bang caused by a sedan slamming into an SUV positioned in a nearby intersection about 40 meters (130 feet) from Biden, security personnel rushed the president into a waiting vehicle and he was whisked away from the building in downtown Wilmington.

“Both the president and first lady are fine,” a White House official told an AFP reporter who witnessed the incident. Further questions were referred to the US Secret Service.

Pool reporters had gathered on the sidewalk outside the campaign offices — where the president and First Lady Jill Biden had had dinner with staff — and had just finished shouting questions to Biden from a distance when they heard the crash and saw him with a surprised expression on his face.

Agents sprang into action, cornering the silver car with Delaware license plates and drawing weapons on the driver, who held his hands up.

Reporters were then quickly rounded up by staff to join the motorcade as it departed the rain-drenched scene.

“They’re evacuating, you guys gotta go,” a staffer told reporters as security personnel secured the area.

Biden arrived safely at his family home without further incident.
