Mass arrests, lockdown: Chaos sweeps US universities over pro-Palestine protests

Columbia University has extended the deadline for negotiations concerning the removal of a protest encampment, which has become a symbol of the campus protest movement, from Wednesday morning to Friday morning, granting 48 more hours to reach a resolution. Protests on many campuses have been orchestrated by coalitions of student groups. The groups largely act independently, though students say they’re inspired by peers at other universities.
