While promoting her upcoming Prime Video film The Bluff, Priyanka Chopra opened up about a real life moment from her childhood that still gives her chills. In the film, she plays a fiercely protective mother who will stop at nothing to keep her child safe. Speaking to ANI, Priyanka shared how a similar protective instinct once came alive in her own mother, Madhu Chopra, and how that memory helped her connect deeply with her character.

Recalling the incident, Priyanka said, “I remember when her inner ka Bloody Mary came out. We were in a cab. I must have been 11 years old or something. Raat mein hum Delhi ke kisi hotel mein jaa rahe the (We were on our way to some hotel in Delhi at night). We were driving, and suddenly, I don’t know, all I saw was my mother holding the driver’s throat.” She revealed that the driver had taken a route her mother did not recognise.

She continued, “Apparently, he took a turn that she didn’t recognise, and he said, ‘Nahi nahi, main shortcut le raha hun. Raat ke 11 baj rahe the; mummy aur main akele the (No, no, I’m taking a shortcut. It was 11 at night; it was just Mummy and me).’ But she just held his neck from the back and said, ‘Drive back to the main road.’” Priyanka added that her mother even slapped the driver and firmly repeated, “Drive back to the main road,” reminding him that she was travelling with her teenage daughter.

The actor admitted she had never seen that fierce side of her mother before. “After that, I did not debate her on anything for the next four months. I don’t know if my mom would’ve reacted like that if she was alone. But because I was with her, she was shaking when we got back to the hotel,” she said. The powerful memory, she explained, stayed with her and helped her understand the lengths a mother can go to when it comes to protecting her child, much like her character in The Bluff.
