Suryakumar Yadav (33) will captain India’s T20I team against Sri Lanka starting July 27, with Shubman Gill as vice-captain. Virat Kohli returns for ODIs beginning August 2. Hardik Pandya remains in the T20 squad. Jasprit Bumrah is rested. Rohit Sharma is the ODI captain. Gautam Gambhir is the head coach. Surya emphasizes a simple approach and team rapport. Last year, Surya had led India to a 4-1 T20I series win over Australia and followed it up with a 1-1 result in South Africa.

One angle from where Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as India’s head coach always looked at was in terms of his strained relations with Virat Kohli, but according to a report in Cricbuzz, Kohli has communicated to the BCCI that he is ready to move on as it is in the best interest of the team and Indian cricket.
