Radikaa Sarathkumar Teams Up With Gopi Nainar for Social Drama Colony

Even as uncertainty surrounds the release of Manushi, filmmaker Gopi Nainar has already set the wheels in motion for his next project. Titled Colony, the film brings together the director and Radikaa Sarathkumar for the first time, marking an intriguing collaboration rooted in socially relevant storytelling.

A New Collaboration Takes Shape

True to Gopi Nainar’s filmography, Colony is expected to spotlight a pressing social issue, a space the director has consistently gravitated towards. While plot specifics remain tightly under wraps, the project is already generating interest for its thematic promise and strong casting.

Joining Radikaa in the ensemble are Anjali Nair and MS Bhaskar, both known for their ability to anchor emotionally driven narratives. Their presence hints at a film that will likely balance realism with compelling character arcs, a hallmark of Gopi’s storytelling style.

Backing the film is producer R Nagarajan under the Aditi Movies banner, further strengthening the project’s foundation. With a team that blends seasoned talent and proven collaborators, Colony is shaping up to be a film that aims for both impact and accessibility.

A Strong Technical Backbone

One of the most striking aspects of Colony is its experienced technical crew. Veteran composer Deva, who has contributed to over 375 films, is on board to handle the music. Known for his ability to create instantly catchy and emotionally resonant tracks, Deva’s involvement adds a layer of nostalgia and credibility. His last outing was Anantha, directed by Suresh Krissna.

Cinematography will be helmed by R Velraj, whose visual sensibilities have elevated several Tamil films, while editing duties are entrusted to Anthony, a long-time collaborator on many high-profile projects. Action sequences will be choreographed by Kanal Kannan, and lyrics will be penned by Yugabharathi, rounding off a technically robust lineup.

For Radikaa Sarathkumar, Colony continues a phase where she is increasingly taking centre stage in performance-driven narratives. Following her recent success with Thaai Kizhavi, this film marks her second consecutive outing as a lead actor, signalling a strong resurgence in author-backed roles.

The veteran actor also has an exciting slate ahead, including the bilingual Vishwanath & Sons, which stars Suriya and Mamitha Baiju. With projects spanning different languages and genres, Radikaa appears to be curating a diverse and dynamic lineup.

Meanwhile, Gopi Nainar has a busy period ahead. Apart from Colony, he is awaiting the release of Manushi, which stars Andrea Jeremiah in the lead, and Karuppar Nagaram, featuring Jai. The filmmaker also recently appeared in a supporting role in My Lord, headlined by Sasikumar and directed by Raju Murugan.

With Colony, Gopi seems poised to return to familiar terrain while also exploring new collaborative dynamics. The film not only marks a significant partnership with Radikaa but also reinforces his commitment to cinema that engages with real-world concerns.

What to Expect

While it is still early days for Colony, the combination of a socially conscious director, a seasoned lead actor, and a dependable technical crew sets the stage for a potentially compelling film. If Gopi Nainar’s past work is anything to go by, audiences can expect a narrative that does not shy away from uncomfortable truths while remaining grounded in strong storytelling.

For now, all eyes are on how this collaboration unfolds, especially with Radikaa Sarathkumar at the forefront of a narrative that promises both depth and relevance.

Vaazha 3 Announced: Vipin Das Pivots Franchise Towards a Bold Female-Led Chapter

Filmmaker Vipin Das has officially confirmed the third instalment of his widely popular Vaazha franchise, and this time, the series is taking a decisive step forward. Titled Vaazha 3: Biopic of a Billion Girls, the upcoming film will shift its focus to female protagonists, marking a notable departure from the male-dominated narratives of its predecessors.

A Franchise Reinvents Itself

The announcement arrived via social media on Tuesday, following a cryptic teaser post by Vipin that had already sparked speculation among fans. In a detailed note, the writer and co-producer reflected on the franchise’s unexpected rise and reaffirmed its core mission of nurturing fresh talent within the industry.

“The Vaazha franchise has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined… we are committed to carrying that legacy forward in all future chapters,” he wrote, underlining the series’ commitment to remaining a platform for emerging voices across writing, direction, acting and music.

Vaazha 3 Announced

The decision to centre Vaazha 3 around girls, Vipin revealed, stems directly from audience feedback. It is less a reinvention and more a natural progression, aligning with the franchise’s inclusive and youth-driven spirit. By broadening its lens, the series appears poised to explore new emotional and social textures, while retaining its signature coming-of-age framework.

From Boys to Bros to Girls

The Vaazha journey began with Vaazha: Biopic of a Billion Boys, directed by Anand Menen, which struck a chord with audiences through its raw, relatable portrayal of young men navigating identity and societal expectations. The film stood out for its unconventional casting, bringing in fresh faces rather than established stars, and emerged as a commercial success.

Its sequel, Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros, directed by Savin SA, expanded the scale while staying true to the franchise’s ethos. Released on April 2, the film has been enjoying an extraordinary box office run, breaking several records in Malayalam cinema. Interestingly, its success has come without traditional star power, instead relying on popular digital creators such as Hashir, Alan, Vinayak and Ajin. This unconventional casting strategy has become a defining trait of the series.

At its heart, the Vaazha franchise has always been about the overlooked. Its protagonists are typically youngsters dismissed or underestimated by society, trying to carve out a sense of purpose amid chaos and confusion. That emotional core is expected to remain intact in the third instalment, even as the perspective shifts.

Carrying forward the tradition of backing new talent behind the camera, Vaazha 3 will be directed by Viswan Sreejith, a member of Vipin’s core assistant team. This mirrors the trajectory of Savin SA, who graduated from the same ecosystem to helm the second film. The move reinforces Vipin’s long-standing approach of building filmmakers from within his creative circle.

Music will once again play a crucial role, with composer Ankit Menon returning as music supervisor. Known for his collaborative style, Menon is expected to bring together a mix of independent artists, continuing the franchise’s emphasis on collective creativity.

Production for Vaazha 3 is slated to begin next year. Addressing the gap between instalments, Vipin acknowledged the anticipation while assuring audiences that the wait would be worthwhile. “We know it’s a long wait, but we promise to make it worth it!” he said.

The film is being produced by a team that includes Harris Desom, PB Anish, Sahu Garapati, Adarsh Narayan and Icon Studios, alongside Vipin. He also clarified that, despite the franchise’s reputation for launching new faces, auditions and submissions are not open at the moment. These will only be announced once the script reaches its final stage.

What Lies Ahead for Vipin Das

Beyond the Vaazha universe, Vipin Das is also gearing up for his next directorial outing, Santhosh Trophy. The film reunites him with Prithviraj Sukumaran, following their collaboration on Guruvayoorambala Nadayil. While details about Santhosh Trophy remain under wraps, the project has already generated curiosity given Vipin’s knack for blending humour, social commentary and strong character arcs.

With Vaazha 3, however, the filmmaker appears to be making a statement that goes beyond storytelling. By placing women at the centre of a franchise built on relatability and grassroots appeal, he is not just expanding its narrative scope but also challenging its own established template.

If the previous instalments are any indication, Vaazha 3: Biopic of a Billion Girls could well be another defining chapter, one that reflects the evolving voices of a generation while staying rooted in the spirit that made the franchise resonate in the first place.
