Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis stated it is unfortunate that the government must protect Aurangzeb’s grave amid calls for its removal. He emphasised adherence to legal procedures due to the site’s protected status, ensured by the Archaeological Survey of India. Fadnavis lauded Shivaji Maharaj for his role in securing religious freedom.

The residents urged the Fadnavis government to “stay” the project saying that it would have “catastrophic consequences for the city”.
