The Union government has removed Amarnath Ramakrishna as ASI director (antiquity) after disagreements over the dating of Keeladi archaeological finds. Ramakrishna’s report suggested the finds were from the 8th century BCE, a claim disputed by the Union culture minister and another ASI director, Hemasagar A Naik, who will now head the antiquities department.

Leader of the Opposition in Tripura Assembly, Jitendra Chaudhury, sparked a row by stating that “taller a person, dumber he is”, with the ruling BJP demanding his public apology claiming it was a jibe at former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
