Suriyas Karuppu Crosses Rs 175 Crore in Tamil Nadu Continues Record-breaking Theatrical Run

Suriya’s Karuppu is showing no signs of slowing down. The blockbuster entertainer has now surpassed the Rs 175 crore mark in Tamil Nadu, adding yet another milestone to its remarkable theatrical journey. Even three weeks after hitting screens, the film continues to attract audiences in large numbers, proving that word-of-mouth and repeat viewership remain firmly on its side.

Karuppu continues its dream run at the box office

Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu has emerged as one of the biggest success stories of the year. The film had recently crossed Rs 150 crore in Tamil Nadu, and its latest achievement further cements its position as a major box office phenomenon. Trade circles continue to report strong occupancy levels across several centres, particularly during weekends, allowing the film to maintain momentum despite new releases entering the market.

The success of Karuppu has also provided a much-needed boost to the Tamil film industry after a prolonged period of underwhelming theatrical performances. The film’s sustained run has helped revive audience confidence in the big-screen experience and reaffirmed the drawing power of star-led commercial entertainers when backed by strong emotional storytelling.

What makes the achievement even more significant is the speed at which the film has shattered records. Within just four days of release, Karuppu overtook the lifetime Tamil Nadu collections of Singam 2, ending a record that had stood for more than a decade. In doing so, it officially became the highest-grossing film of Suriya’s career.

The film then continued its rapid ascent, crossing the worldwide collections of major Tamil blockbusters such as Mersal, Petta and Thunivu before entering the coveted Rs 200 crore club globally within eight days of release. It has also emerged as Suriya’s most successful film in Kerala, where it has enjoyed a particularly strong run.

Cast and crew celebrate a landmark success

The overwhelming response to Karuppu has been met with celebrations from the cast and crew, who have been sharing their gratitude with fans since the film’s release. Recently, Suriya made headlines for gifting Mahindra BE6 electric vehicles to key members of the technical team, including editor Kalaivanan, cinematographer GK Vishnu and composer Sai Abhyankkar.

The gesture was widely appreciated by fans and industry insiders, who viewed it as recognition of the collaborative effort behind the film’s success. The technical aspects of Karuppu, particularly its visual presentation, editing and music, have received considerable praise from audiences and critics alike.

At the heart of the film is a fantasy-driven narrative rooted in faith and justice. Suriya plays Karuppu, a revered guardian deity who descends to Earth after hearing the pleas of a struggling family. As he becomes involved in their lives, he discovers a deeply compromised legal system controlled by powerful and corrupt figures. Determined to restore fairness and accountability, he sets out to challenge the forces that have manipulated justice for decades.

Alongside Suriya, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Trisha, Indrans, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy and Natty Natraj. RJ Balaji also appears on screen as the antagonist Baby Kannan, a role that has drawn attention for its departure from his usual comedic image.

With no major slowdown in sight and audience enthusiasm remaining strong, Karuppu continues to add to its already impressive list of achievements. As it powers past yet another milestone, the film’s box office journey is shaping up to be one of the most memorable success stories in recent Tamil cinema history.

Tharun Moorthy Shuts Down Rumours of Athimanoharam Shoot Being Stalled Over Script Issues

Director Tharun Moorthy has firmly denied reports claiming that the shoot of Athimanoharam, his upcoming film with Mohanlal, has been halted due to problems with the script. The filmmaker took to social media on Thursday to address the rumours, calling them entirely baseless and urging people not to spread unverified information.

Director sets the record straight on viral speculation

Responding to the growing chatter online, Tharun revealed that he had been receiving numerous calls and messages regarding reports suggesting that production had come to a standstill because of alleged confusion surrounding the screenplay.

“I am receiving many messages and calls regarding online news claiming that our shoot has been stopped due to confusion in the script. This is completely false,” he wrote.

The director further explained that the team has been actively filming in Thodupuzha and that work on the project has continued uninterrupted. According to him, the production has now completed 78 days of shooting, a significant milestone that reflects the team’s steady progress.

While dismissing rumours of script-related setbacks, Tharun acknowledged that the crew has faced challenges from unpredictable weather conditions. Heavy rainfall in parts of Kerala has affected certain plans and schedules, but he emphasised that the team remains committed to moving forward despite the obstacles.

He added that the cast and crew have been working with enthusiasm and optimism, adapting to circumstances whenever required. The filmmaker also cautioned against the circulation of misinformation, noting that such reports can create unnecessary concern among audiences and undermine the hard work being put in by everyone involved in the project.

Tharun Moorthy shuts down rumours of Athimanoharam shoot being stalled over script issues

Expectations run high after Thudarum’s success

Athimanoharam has emerged as one of the most closely watched Malayalam films currently in production, largely because it reunites Tharun Moorthy with Mohanlal following the success of Thudarum. The previous collaboration was widely appreciated by audiences and critics alike, making expectations surrounding their next venture particularly high.

In recent weeks, speculation surrounding Athimanoharam has extended beyond production updates. Tharun had earlier addressed assumptions that the film would follow a similar template to Thudarum. The director clarified that the new project occupies a very different creative space and should not be viewed as a continuation of the earlier film’s style or tone.

Describing Athimanoharam as a “police procedural and family drama”, he stated that it is not designed as an action-driven entertainer. His comments were aimed at ensuring audiences approach the film on its own terms rather than through comparisons with his previous blockbuster.

The film carries additional significance as Mohanlal’s 366th feature. The veteran actor plays police officer TS Lovelajan, a character expected to anchor the story’s investigative and emotional threads. Joining him is Meera Jasmine, who portrays his wife, marking another notable collaboration on screen.

The screenplay has been penned by Ratheesh Ravi, known for his grounded storytelling and nuanced character writing. Production is being handled by Ashiq Usman under the Ashiq Usman Productions banner.

The technical team also boasts several accomplished names from Malayalam cinema. Jakes Bejoy is composing the music, while cinematography is being handled by Shaji Kumar. Editing duties have been entrusted to Vivek Harshan, with Vishnu Govind overseeing sound design.

With filming continuing steadily despite weather-related hurdles, Athimanoharam remains firmly on track. As anticipation builds around Mohanlal and Tharun Moorthy’s latest collaboration, the director’s clarification should put to rest concerns about any alleged production troubles.
