Noted ecologist Madhav Gadgil, known for his work on the Western Ghats, has passed away in Pune after a brief illness, family sources said on Thursday.

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in Kanpur, leading to the arrest of a YouTuber and a manhunt for an absconding sub-inspector. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal removed a Deputy Commissioner and suspended the local SHO for alleged lapses and distortion of facts. The victim’s family reported initial police inaction and a cover-up attempt.

SC underlined that its focus was on strict compliance with the Animal Birth Control Rules and reiterated that it had only directed the removal of dogs from institutional areas.
