A 34-year-old domestic worker from West Bengal and her husband were allegedly brutally assaulted by the Bengaluru police for three hours on charges of stealing a diamond ring from her employer’s house.

A Deputy Superintendent of Police in Uttar Pradesh, Rishikant Shukla, faces a vigilance inquiry after an SIT probe uncovered nearly ₹100 crore in alleged illegal wealth. The investigation revealed links to a Kanpur-based lawyer’s extortion syndicate, which reportedly used fabricated cases and land grabbing. Shukla’s assets are deemed disproportionate to his known income.
