Salman Khan Sends Legal Notice to Team Kala Hiran Producer Responds
DSK Legal, representing Salman Khan, has issued a legal notice to casting director Akshay Pandey over the proposed film Kala Hiran, demanding an immediate stop to its development and promotion. According to the notice dated April 24, 2026, the film is allegedly inspired by Khan’s widely discussed blackbuck hunting case.
The legal team further stated that the project could damage the actor’s reputation, interfere with ongoing judicial proceedings and violate his personality rights.
Moreover, they alleged that Pandey was approaching actors and circulating materials about the project, such as the synopsis and character sketches, while giving the impression that the story was inspired by the infamous case. Khan, however, has not authorised the use of his name or even the events allegedly connected to him.
The notice stated that since the matter is still pending before the Rajasthan High Court, making a film inspired by the case could potentially interfere with the administration of justice. Salman Khan’s legal team also accused the makers of attempting to commercially benefit from the actor’s fame and goodwill.
Describing the project as defamatory, the notice alleged that the film contains misleading imputations that could harm the actor’s professional reputation and public image.
DSK Legal has demanded that Akshay Pandey and other concerned parties cease development of the film and halt all promotion and publicity related to it. The notice warned that failure to comply within 24 hours could lead to the matter escalating into both civil and criminal legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, producer Amit Jani took to social media to share the notice and claimed that Salman Khan ‘has started threatening people related to the Kala Hiran movie’.
Later, speaking to India Today, he clarified that the film is not a biopic on Salman Khan. He stated, “This is not a Salman Khan biopic. The film is based on a larger story involving the Bishnoi community, their struggle, and their deep connection with wildlife. We have tried to bring that story to the screen.” Jani also said that the legal notice was sent prematurely since only the poster of the film has been released.
He continued, “Only the poster has been released. The teaser is yet to come. Sending a legal notice at this stage, without any discussion, was unnecessary. I have not shown Salman Khan in a negative light, nor have I glorified Lawrence Bishnoi. The film presents what is already available in the public domain and highlights the beliefs and history of the Bishnoi community.”
