Ranveer Singh to File Revised Apology Affidavit in Karnataka High Court Over Kantara Imitation Row

Ranveer Singh might be basking in the success of Dhurandhar, but he is also embroiled in a legal case. A case was filed against the actor after he mimicked Kantara star Rishab Shetty at the National Film Awards last year. Now, the actor has told the Karnataka High Court that he is willing to file a revised affidavit of apology for mimicking Chamundi Devi’s depiction in the film.
Ranveer also expressed remorse and stated that he was unaware that he was hurting sentiments when he mimicked Rishab’s performance.
This came up during the hearing of the actor’s plea seeking to quash the FIR filed against him after he mimicked a character played by Rishabh Shetty in Kantara Chapter 1. He also spoke about Daiva (a deity) in a manner that was found objectionable by the complainant.

Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya read Singh’s apology affidavit in court and said, “I have filed an affidavit of apology. And I have undertaken in that affidavit that I will visit the temple as well. (The affidavit states) on the date of the incident, even for a moment, I did not realise I offended the worshippers of the Daiva. I also want to clarify, I was raised in a Sindhi household in Mumbai and I was not aware of the sensitivities. I, through this affidavit, once again convey my deepest regret, and unconditional apology. I will be visiting the temple of the deity in due course to offer my prayers and express my devotion.”

However, the complainant, Prashanth Methal, argued that the affidavit did not convey genuine remorse, adding that Rishab had, in fact, signalled Ranveer Singh not to perform the imitation on stage. Following this, the court directed Singh to file a revised affidavit. Moreover, Poovayya agreed to meet Methal to refine the wording of the apology affidavit and submit a revised version before the court. The case has now been adjourned till April 23.

In his apology, Ranveer also stated that he would visit a temple in Mysore to express his devotion.
