Sanjay Malhotra, the revenue secretary, has been appointed as new Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor by the Narendra Modi government. Malhotra will succeed Shakikanta Das whose tenure is scheduled to end on December 10, 2024.

Opposition parties are initiating proceedings to remove vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar from his position as Rajya Sabha chairman. This follows escalating tensions with the ruling BJP, particularly after allegations linking Congress leaders to financier George Soros and disputes over parliamentary procedures. Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned amidst the uproar.

According to police, the accused Raghavendra had been proposing to the victim for over three years but she kept refusing her advances.
