An Indian government employee, Vikash Yadav, has been charged in the US for a murder-for-hire plot targeting Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Yadav allegedly directed the plot through Nikhil Gupta, who recruited a supposed hitman, later revealed as a DEA confidential source. Yadav is now no longer employed by the Indian government.

According to the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre in Ludhiana, satellite detection recorded 83 incidents of stubble burning as of October 17.
