The family of Akshay Shinde, who died in a police encounter while in custody, has petitioned the Bombay High Court for a special investigation. Shinde was accused of sexual assault and allegedly took a policeman’s gun before being shot. The Maharashtra CID will investigate the matter.

Harini Amarasuriya has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s 16th Prime Minister, making her the first woman in this role since Sirimavo Bandaranaike in 2000.
