Thirteen years after his acclaimed performance in Shahid, which earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor and cemented his reputation for moulding into his characters, Rajkummar is returning to a similar genre of real-life narratives. While he has played diverse roles in films like Newton, Stree, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Srikanth, and Mr. and Mrs. Mahi in the last few years, Prahaar places him back in a story grounded in real lives, stakes, and consequences.

The makers dropped the teaser along with the caption which read, “When justice needed a voice, one man became its Prahaar. Rajkummar Rao as Ujjwal Nikam unfolds the truth. Prahaar Teaser Out Now. In cinemas 7th August, 2026.

The teaser offers a small glimpse into the film, avoiding dramatic plot revelations or heavy courtroom dialogue. Instead, it focuses on introducing the character of Ujjwal Nikam through Rajkummar’s performance. Viewers have already begun praising the actor’s careful preparation, specifically highlighting his posture and his Marathi diction.

Ujjwal Nikam, one of India’s most recognized public prosecutors, is a prominent figure in Maharashtra’s legal and public sphere, known for handling numerous high-profile cases. The film aims to capture this gravity, with the teaser hinting at courtroom confrontations and the weight of difficult decisions, all while keeping the narrative details wrapped.

Joining Rajkummar Rao in the film is Wamiqa Gabbi. The pair were last seen together in Bhool Chuk Maaf, and their reunion on screen has sparked additional interest in the project. While the makers have not yet revealed further cast details, the teaser has sparked buzz for its take on the high-profile case of Ajmal Kasab’s verdict. Prahaar is confirmed for a theatrical release on August 7.
