A 72-year-old retired MTNL mechanic, Gautam Thakur, was murdered at his home in New Ashok Nagar, Delhi, on Saturday. Police arrested his younger son, Mahesh, who initially misled them with a false story. Mahesh confessed to killing his father over property disputes after an intense interrogation. The murder weapon, a kitchen knife, was recovered.

The state government managed to send the Nazul Property Bill 2024 to a select committee after protests by legislators. The bill aimed to reclaim encroached nazul land, affecting thousands. Despite clarification that densely occupied land wouldn’t be taken, concerns persisted. The bill seeks to use reclaimed land for public purposes and infrastructure needs.
