The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that waqf, while an Islamic concept, isn’t an essential part of Islam and thus can’t be claimed as a fundamental right. This statement was made during arguments defending the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which is being challenged in court.

In a major anti-Maoist operation, Chhattisgarh’s DRG jawans killed 27 Maoists in Abujhmarh forests, Narayanpur. Sources claim CPI (Maoist) general secretary Basava Raju, carrying a Rs 1.5 crore bounty, was among those eliminated. One DRG jawan was also killed in the encounter.
