In the world of social media, where memes often travel faster than news, Karan Johar has stepped in to remind everyone where the real talent lies. Taking to his Instagram stories today, he gave a massive shout-out to Varun Dhawan, silencing the online noise that has surrounded the actor in the weeks leading up to the release of Border 2.
Karan, who has been like a mentor to Varun, was quick to notice the trend of jokes and memes around Varun’s smile and expressions in the film’s promotional tracks. However, Karan was quick to revert to trolls. In an Instagram story, he defended Varun as he wrote, “Has to be said…the reason why it’s called a virtual world! Real will always score and prove the noise on social media as defunct! You can troll an artist for his smile but then he laughs when the film releases to packed houses and he receives pure authentic audience love! So noisemakers and clickbait seeking content creators can do what they like…truth will always prevail!” By highlighting Varun’s performance, Karan redirected the focus from viral memes to the actual craft on display.

The trolling began shortly after the release of the song Ghar Kab Aaoge, where social media users picked apart a specific moment of Varun smiling, turning it into a viral template. Varun himself had addressed the trend with grace during a live session, even joking with singer Vishal Mishra about the tutorial for his one-sided smile.
However, as Border 2 released in theatres the attention has shifted from the memes to the performance. Early reviews from fans and critics alike have been largely positive, with many praising the film. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 carries forward the legacy of the 1997 original. The film features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, who returns in his iconic avatar, alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh and Anya Singh.
