Karan Johar reveals he was âœvery scaredâ of Amrish Puri on the sets of DDLJ

In the recent episode of Karan Johar’s celebrity talk show where he will host Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty, Karan reminisced about his time as an assistant director on the classic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, sharing anecdotes about his anxious interactions with the late iconic actor Amrish Puri, who portrayed Kajol’s stern father in the movie.

Karan said, “I have to tell you, my father and Amrish ji come from the same village, so the first person my father told me whose feet I had to touch was Amrish ji’s.” Ajay replied, “The only person whose feet I have touched is also Amrish ji’s because the first shot I took with him, I touched his feet.”

Karan Johar recalled his experience working with Amrish Puri on the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge sets, mentioning that he used to be very scared of him when he was an assistant director on DDLJ sets. He shared that Amrish Puri was particular about detailing and would inquire about the time in London and the scene’s timing to set his watch accordingly. Johar also mentioned being traumatised by Puri’s attention to detail but acknowledged him as a wonderful man.

Ajay Devgn also recollected the actor, noting, “They used to say, and it is a fact, that kisi ke ghar pe shaadi ho, kisi ke ghar pe koi death ho jaaye, he was the first man to be their support.”

Dilwale Duhania Le Jayenge was written and directed by Aditya Chopra and starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles. The film is still considered one of the most iconic films of the Indian cinema.

Criminal Code Bills Passed In Lok Sabha With Most Opposition MPs Suspended

Three crucial bills that would replace the colonial-era criminal laws were passed in Lok Sabha today, virtually in the absence of the Opposition.

The Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023 and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023, will replace the Indian Penal Code of 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) of 1973 and Indian Evidence Act, of 1872.

The laws were passed amid the suspension of 143 Opposition members following protests over the recent security breach.

The numbers of suspensions in the Lok Sabha reached 97 today, with the suspension of two more MPs.

The issue has snowballed into the latest flashpoint between the government and the Opposition following the mimicry of Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar by a Trinamool MP.

Insisting that the new laws will replace the colonial era rules that are completely unsuitable for this day and age, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said today that the new bills lay “emphasis on Indianness, the Indian Constitution and the well-being of the people”.

“I have gone through every comma, full stop of the new criminal laws,” the minister said, insisting that they were in consonance with the spirit of Constitution.

The bills were withdrawn after the monsoon session and three new bills introduced, as a few changes were to be made, Mr Shah said.

The new bills have been examined by the Standing Committee and instead of coming up with official amendments, it was decided to bring the bills again.
