PM Modi Pays Floral Tributes To Birsa Munda In Ranchi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid homage to tribal icon Birsa Munda in Ranchi on his birth anniversary.

He paid floral tributes to the 25-foot tall statue of the icon at the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Memorial Park-cum-Freedom Fighter Museum, situated at the Old Central Jail where he had breathed his last on June 9, 1900.

Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary is celebrated across the country as the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.

“Respectful tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary. Many best wishes to my family members across the country on this special occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas,” PM Modi posted on X.

During his visit to the museum, the PM was accompanied by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Governor CP Radhakrishnan and Union Minister Arjun Munda.

He took a round of the museum that demonstrates the way tribals struggled to protect their forests, land rights and culture, besides their valour and sacrifices.

Along with Birsa Munda, the museum also showcases contributions of tribal freedom fighters such as Budhu Bhagat, Sidhu-Kanhu, Nilambar-Pitambar, Diwa-Kisun, Telanga Khadiya, Gaya Munda, Jatra Bhagat, Poto H, Bhagirath Manjhi and Ganga Narayan Singh.

The memorial park has been developed on adjacent 25 acre land, and it has a musical fountain, children’s park, infinity pool, garden and other entertainment facilities.

The PM is on a two-day visit to Jharkhand. Later in the day, he will visit Birsa Munda’s birthplace Ulihatu village in Khunti district.

From there, he will launch the Rs 24,000-crore project aimed at the development of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). He will also launch the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’, release the 15th installment of Rs 18,000 crore under the PM-KISAN scheme, and inaugurate and lay the foundation of projects worth Rs 7,200 crore in the state.

K Kavitha On How Family Responds To Stress Due To Delhi Excise Case Probe

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha, being questioned in the Delhi excise policy case, spoke about how tough it is for her family every time the probe agency summons her.

“We are a normal middle-class family. If one of the family member is missing for a certain time, it will be hard on everybody. Everybody was very anxious, very worried,” K Kavitha tells NDTV when asked about reports that she could be arrested soon.

She also spoke about her sartorial choices and explained why she usually wears a saree.

“As a politician, it’s my job to dress in a certain way, for people to feel that I am one among them and they can approach me. I am not dressed differently from any person on the street, which is why they come up to me and talk to me,” she says.

Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, said that she is still growing as a politician and there is time before the party considers her a candidate to lead the state.

“I am working my way up in the party. I am yet to learn more and grow more. I have some more time to go for me to be called eligible for that (Chief Minister) position,” the 45-year-old says.

K Kavitha said that Pinarayi Vijayan and Ashok Gehlot are some politicians she admires and is trying to learn from.

Elections to the 119-member Telangana Assembly will be held on November 30 and the counting of votes is scheduled for December 3.

In the previous Assembly elections in 2018, the BRS won 88 of the 119 seats, hogging 47.4 per cent of the total vote share.
