Jiiva Thanks Fans for The Love Poured on Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil

Following the release of Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil, actor Jiiva took to social media to share a heartfelt note thanking audiences for their “wonderful responses” to the film. Calling it a special way to begin the New Year, Jiiva said the project held a personal significance for him and expressed happiness at seeing viewers embrace it in theatres.

A grateful note to audiences

In his message, the actor also made a warm mention of the film’s director Nithish Sahadev, describing him as “a talented filmmaker who hails from your own hometown.” While Nithish was born in Thiruvananthapuram and spent his formative years there, he later moved to Chennai, where he trained at the Chennai Film Industrial School before stepping into direction. Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil marks his first release after the 2023 Malayalam hit Falimy, which starred Basil Joseph, Jagadish, Sandeep Pradeep and Manju Pillai, and won praise for its rooted humour and warmth.

“I sincerely invite everyone to watch the film in theatres and share your valuable feedback with us. As always, I remain deeply grateful for your continued love and support,” Jiiva wrote, signing off his note on a gracious, fan-first note that has long been his trademark.

A Pongal release finding its feet

Directed by Nithish Sahadev, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil sees Jiiva step into the role of a Panchayat President, leaning into a space that blends social observation with accessible humour. The film also features Ilavarasu, Thambi Ramaiah, Prathana Nathan and Jenson Dhivakar in key roles, forming an ensemble that supports the film’s small-town political setting.

On the commercial front, early signs have been encouraging. According to Sacnilk, the film earned a net collection of Rs 1.3 crore from theatres across India on its opening day, Thursday. On its second day, the film added another Rs 0.42 crore to its domestic tally. While worldwide figures are yet to be officially announced, the steady numbers suggest healthy footfalls for a content-driven Pongal release.

Beyond the numbers, audience sentiment has largely tilted positively. Social media reactions and early reviews point to an appreciation for the film’s light-hearted tone, relatable characters, and Jiiva’s understated performance. Some viewers have even gone so far as to label it a “Pongal winner,” a tag that carries weight during Tamil cinema’s most competitive release window.

The film arrived in theatres as part of a crowded festive lineup in Tamil Nadu. This Pongal season also saw the release of Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara and starring Sivakarthikeyan, as well as Vaa Vaathiyaar, helmed by Nalan Kumarasamy with Karthi in the lead. Amid this stiff competition, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil has managed to carve out its own space by appealing to family audiences looking for a breezy, grounded entertainer.

As word of mouth continues to build over the festive weekend, the coming days will be crucial in determining how far the film can go at the box office. For now, Jiiva’s gratitude-filled note and the audience’s early response suggest that Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil has struck the right chord at the right time.

Dhanushâs Kara First Glimpse Promises a Gritty Tale of Sin and Survival

Dhanushâs Kara First Glimpse Promises a Gritty Tale of Sin and Survival

The makers of Kara have unveiled the much awaited first glimpse of the film, officially introducing audiences to Dhanush’s 55th outing as a leading man. After confirming the title earlier this week, the team dropped a mood heavy video that establishes the tonal blueprint of the film. Dhanush steps into the role of Karasaami, a cotton farmer whose life is shaped by the seeds he sows, and more urgently, by the mistakes he is desperate to cleanse. The teaser leans into these themes with rugged frames, atmospheric sound design, and a montage of rising conflict.

A Blood-soaked Redemption Arc Begins

The short video follows Karasaami as he attempts to reclaim his land, his dignity, and a sense of moral order, even if it means walking straight into danger. His journey appears drenched in remorse, rage, and a strange quiet intensity that only Dhanush can deliver. As the voiceover hints at a reckoning with the past, the visuals shift to sequences of Karasaami confronting a lineup of antagonists backed by political and economic muscle. The promise is clear. Kara aims to blend grounded rural storytelling with kinetic action, anchored by Dhanush’s performance driven gravitas.

The glimpse also signals Vignesh Raja’s directorial vision, following his acclaimed 2023 thriller Por Thozhil. Raja seems to carry forward his flair for emotional stakes entwined with crime and conflict, but this time on a notably larger canvas.

A Strong Ensemble and Familiar Collaborators

Joining Dhanush is an eclectic cast that positions Kara as a character rich drama. The film features Mamitha Baiju in a key role, continuing her steady rise in South Indian cinema. Veteran performers KS Ravikumar, Jayaram, Karunaas, Prithvi Pandiarajan, MS Bhaskar, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Sreeja Ravi round out the robust ensemble. The mix of seasoned actors and emerging talent suggests a narrative built on interpersonal nuance as much as heavy duty action.

GV Prakash Kumar reunites with Dhanush after Idli Kadai (2025), composing the music for this film. Lyricists Yuga Bharathi and Asal Kolaar have penned the songs, hinting at a soundtrack that may lean into earthy rhythms while amplifying the emotional beats of Karasaami’s trajectory. Behind the lens is renowned cinematographer Theni Eswar, whose filmography includes Karnan, Peranbu and Mamannan. His expertise in capturing raw rural terrains and human vulnerability makes him a fitting choice for the film’s thematic ambitions.

Sreejith Sarang handles editing duties, bringing his sharp narrative sense from films like Love Today and Dear Friend. Mayapandi serves as the art director, and Dinesh Kasi choreographs the action, both indicating a commitment to creating tactile, high impact sequences. The screenplay is written by Vignesh Raja along with Alfred Prakash, while Ishari K Ganesh produces the film under Vels Film International with Kushmitha Ganesh as co producer.

Early whispers from industry trackers suggest that Kara leans toward a tense revenge drama set within the socio-political realities of Tamil Nadu’s farming communities. While details of the plot remain under wraps, the teaser positions Karasaami as a morally conflicted protagonist fighting a system that has pushed him to a breaking point.

The Road Ahead for Kara

Dhanush’s recent filmography has oscillated between mainstream entertainers and emotionally driven dramas. Kara appears poised to merge both worlds. With its rooted premise, high stakes action and introspective lead character, the film may continue his streak of layered performances. The pairing with Vignesh Raja also brings freshness to the actor’s lineup, especially given the director’s knack for taut storytelling.

As anticipation grows, fans are already dissecting the teaser’s symbolism, the recurring imagery of soil and water, and Dhanush’s unusually brooding physicality. Kara has quickly planted itself as one of the most intriguing titles in the upcoming Tamil slate. A full trailer is expected in the coming months, ahead of a likely mid to late 2025 release.
