Aanand L. Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon recently released on OTT and has captured the attention of the internet, but perhaps not for the reasons the makers expected. While fans were happy to see the actor reunite with the Raanjhanaa director, a specific scene in the movie has triggered a massive debate among research scholars and the academic community on social media.

The controversy is based on a scene where Kriti’s character is seen holding a massive document, which is identified as a PhD thesis. In the scene, it is claimed that the thesis is of 2,200 pages. This detail did not sit well with the academic world, leading many PhD candidates and professors to call out what they describe as a highly unrealistic representation of doctoral research.

Social media platforms, particularly X, were flooded with reactions from scholars who pointed out that a standard PhD thesis typically ranges between 200 to 400 pages. Taking a dig at the creative liberty used in the film, one user commented, “2,200 pages? That’s not a thesis, that’s an entire library archive. No supervisor would ever agree to read that, and no binding would hold it together.”

The criticism comes from a desire for more authentic storytelling when it comes to professional lives. Scholars argued that while cinema often uses creative freedom to show intensity, such exaggerations make the struggles of real-life students look like a stereotype. Another researcher pointed out the logistical impossibility, saying, “A 2,200-page thesis is physically impossible to submit or defend. It shows a lack of basic research on how academia works.”

Despite the backlash regarding the thesis scene, Tere Ishk Mein managed a decent performance at the box office, if not massively successful. The film marked the third collaboration between Aanand L Rai and Dhanush, after their successful projects, Raanjhanaa and Atrangi Re.

The anticipation for the upcoming survival thriller Tu Yaa Main remains high amongst fans after the interesting trailer. While the film has already grabbed headlines for its bold theme of romance and high-stakes thrills, the latest update is about its lead star, Adarsh Gourav. Known for his acting skills, Adarsh is now set to showcase his musical strength by lending his voice to three songs in the film.

Adding another layer to his artistic contribution, one of these tracks, which Adarsh has also co-composed, is scheduled to drop tomorrow. This move marks an evolution for the actor, who has previously experimented with singles and covers but is now exploring his musical skills directly into his cinematic work.

Reflecting on this milestone, Adarsh shared his enthusiasm for the project. He said, “It was an amazing experience to sing for Tu Yaa Main. I’ve sung before and have also enjoyed doing singles and covers, but this film feels very different for me creatively.”

He also mentioned that the variety in the soundtrack allowed him to explore different facets of his personality. He shared, “I’ve sung three songs for the film and also co-composed the one releasing tomorrow, which makes it even more special. Each of the songs are very different in terms of their vibe, and together they show a side of my journey that people haven’t seen yet. I’m really excited for audiences to hear the first song tomorrow.”

Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, Tu Yaa Main is based on the contemporary world of creator culture. Adarsh is paired on-screen with Shanaya Kapoor, a duo that has already grabbed attention and praise for their fresh chemistry in the film’s trailer & teaser.

The project is backed by a powerhouse production team, including Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under the Colour Yellow banner, alongside Vinod Bhanushali and Kamlesh Bhanushali of Bhanushali Studios Limited. Tu Yaa Main is slated for a theatrical release on February 13, 2026, during the Valentine’s Day weekend.
