Universities From The US And UK Dominate Yet Again In THE World University Rankings 2024

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 by subject, the universities from the US and UK take the number one positions across all 11 of the subject rankings.

The UK’s University of Oxford has claimed the top spot in both clinical and health and computer science and US universities have come first in the other nine subjects including arts and humanities, business and economics, education, engineering, law, life sciences, physical sciences, psychology and social sciences.

Arts and humanities, life sciences and social sciences only have UK and US universities in the top 10 this year.

Harvard University and Stanford University top in the list of three subjects making them the highest scorers. While Harvard University tops engineering, law and life sciences, Stanford tops in arts and humanities, psychology and is jointly topping in social sciences. Massachusetts Institute of Technology topped in business and economics and is a joint top in social sciences.

While this year’s THE World University Rankings by subject shows a greater diversity of universities and countries excelling across the world, these rankings are still dominated by US and UK institutions.

The top positions of the 11 subject rankings show increasing diversity as compared with the World University Rankings 2020 by subject, especially in social sciences, education, business and economics.

The World University Rankings in its 20th edition witnessed the participation of 108 countries and regions. Around 1,904 universities are ranked overall this year which is an increase from 1,799 universities last year.

For this year’s analysis, 16.5 million research papers were examined which is 1 million more than last year. Additionally, 134 million citations have been examined, compared with last year’s 121 million.

In A Sequin Bird Bralette And Pearl Headpiece, Kareena Kapoor Plays The Flapper Princess

Kareena Kapoor may have walked down the aisle back in 2012 but even a decade later, her allure is strong enough to headline bridal collections. Fashion designer Masaba Gupta’s label House Of Masaba was launched in 2009 and earlier this week, launched their novel bridal collection for the contemporary Indian bride with the Bollywood star playing an artful muse in various avatars. In the latest photo of the bridal collection, Kareena is playing the part of the “Flapper Princess” in pristine white. While paying homage to the flapper girls of the 20s, it also features Indian elements throughout. In a previous style from the bridal line, Kareena is seen in more traditional garb. She is wearing House Of Masaba’s Ochre Neel – Kamal lehenga which features 3 shades of yellow called Surajmukhi, Sona and Khaakhi. The garment is embellished with Son-chidiya, Neel-Kamal, Haathphool and Jaali motif and in dori, sitara and moti kaam, ensuring that the star looked every bit the radiant bride.

In another portrait, Kareena is captured in a modern ensemble for post-wedding functions. She donned the Son Chidiya cropped blazer set in black which included a long sleeved blazer embellished with gold motifs and came paired with a drape skirt.

The collection titled toward traditional ethnic charm when Kareena wore a classic ivory lehenga in raw silk with golden dori kaam. With it was a dupatta with Anar Phool Motif border and a tulle trail embellished with pearls.

Daniel Radcliffe Makes Documentary About His Paralysed ‘Harry Potter’ Stunt Double

Hollywood actor Daniel Radcliffe has produced a documentary about his ‘Harry Potter’ stunt double, who was paralysed while filming the blockbuster film. According to The Guardian, David Holmes worked closely with Mr Radcliffe on the ‘Harry Potter’ films until he sustained a spinal injury during filming for ‘The Deathly Hollows: Part 1’ in January 2009. Taking to Instagram, the gymnast from Essex, UK, announced the news about the “secret project” with Mr Radcliffe, which he says has taken four years. The HBO documentary, titled ‘The Boy Who Lived’, will feature interviews from both as well as footage from Mr Holmes’ stunts.

“Being a stuntman was my calling in life, and doubling Harry was the best job in the world.  In January 2009, I had a stunt rehearsal accident that changed my life forever. This film tells the story of not just my achievements in front of camera, but also the challenges I face every day, and my overall attitude to life after suffering a broken neck,” Mr Holmes wrote on Instagram.

Take a look below:

“In the turbulent world, we find ourselves living in right now, I would like to quote Harry: ‘We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided,'” the stunt double further added. He also thanked medical staff, as well as ‘Harry Potter’ author JK Rowling and Mr Radcliffe for their support.

Mr Holmes also wrote about Mr Radcliffe in his post. He said that they were both “immensely proud of our time on the ‘Harry Potter’ films, and the joy and comfort it brings to audiences around the world on a daily basis”.

The documentary is titled ‘David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived’. It debuts in November. It is executive produced by Daniel Radcliffe and directed by British filmmaker Dan Hartley.
