GV Prakash Races Against Power and Politics in Lucky The Superstar Trailer
The trailer of GV Prakash Kumar’s upcoming JioHotstar series Lucky The Superstar is out, and it sets the tone for a quirky, socially aware fantasy that leans heavily on emotion and humour. Unveiled by the streaming platform on Friday, the nearly two-minute preview introduces a world where luck is not just a concept but a living, breathing dog that everyone wants to control.
Directed by Uday Mahesh, Lucky The Superstar is scheduled to premiere on JioHotstar on February 20.The series marks yet another attempt by Tamil streaming content to fuse fantasy elements with political commentary, while keeping its narrative accessible and family-friendly.
A Dog With Destiny Written All Over It
The trailer opens on a playful yet poignant note, with voiceovers by Kovai Sarala, Rajendran and Thambi Ramaiah, who lend distinct personalities to three street dogs. One of them mourns the loss of her puppy, a moment that quietly sets the emotional spine of the story. The lost pup soon finds a home when a family adopts him and names him Lucky, blissfully unaware that the dog possesses an extraordinary ability to bring immense fortune to whoever owns him.
What begins as a warm, slice-of-life setup quickly spirals into chaos when Lucky goes missing. His disappearance leads him straight into the hands of a group of corrupt politicians who uncover his secret and see him as the ultimate shortcut to power and popularity. The trailer hints at satirical jabs at political opportunism, showing how even fate and fortune can be commodified.
GV Prakash Steps Into a Hero’s Chase
At the heart of the madness is GV Prakash, paired with Anaswara Rajan, both of whom are seen embarking on a frantic mission to rescue Lucky before his powers are fully exploited. GV Prakash appears to be playing an everyman hero, driven more by conscience than ambition, while Anaswara brings warmth and urgency to the quest.
The series also boasts a strong supporting cast including Meghna Sumesh, Elango Kumaravel, Devadarshini and Uday Mahesh himself in key roles. Rang De Basanti recently turned 20. To commemorate the special milestone, the cast of the movie came together for a screening in Mumbai. Aamir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Siddharth, Kunal Kapoor, Atul Kulkarni and more wore matching sweatshirts with the film’s name written on them.
They posed for the paparazzi at the event and interacted with their fans. For those unaware, the movie had released on January 26, 2006. It was primarily filmed in New Delhi. Upon release, Rang De Basanti had broken major Box Office records of the time. It is written, produced and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.
About Rang De Basanti
It centres on a British film student who journeys to India to chronicle the lives of five revolutionaries from the freedom movement. As she befriends and casts five young men for her project, the stories begin to blur with reality, ultimately stirring them to stand up against the injustices of their own contemporary government.
