Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death in absentia by a tribunal she helped establish. The International Crimes Tribunal found her guilty of inciting violence and ordering lethal force during last year’s student-led protests. Hasina, now in exile in India, has denounced the verdict as politically motivated, while Dhaka seeks her extradition.

The police have so far detained seven people in connection with the violence under section 172 of the BNSS.
