Filmfare Exclusive: Kartik Aaryan on Love Loyalty and Why He Prefers Dating Within The Industry

Navigating a personal life under constant public scrutiny is a challenge many Bollywood actors face, and Kartik Aaryan is no exception. In a recent conversation with Filmfare, he addressed the various narratives around his romantic life, offering a candid perspective on loyalty and the reality of modern dating in the film industry.

Kartik remains firm about maintaining boundaries regarding his private affairs. He mentioned that the transition from a private citizen to a public figure often results in a loss of context regarding one’s personal history. He said, “I never talk about my relationships. There will always be countless stories about every actor and their personal life. When you’re in the industry, everything tends to get blown out of proportion. Even if you talk about my relationships, like my college romances, people are quick to label or count them. And sometimes things are just not true.”

Addressing the playboy label that is frequently used in media headlines, Kartik is quick to dismiss the characterization. He clarifies, “I never became a playboy.” He also firmly denied rumours regarding his commitment to his partners, saying, “I have always been faithful. Always. I’ll tell you what happens, in the media, there’s always a perspective. Relationship timelines, rumours, media narratives… that’s the context I’m coming from. Overlapping never happened. That’s just media speculation.”

When discussing his preferences for a future partner, Kartik admitted that he would prefer to date and marry an actress. This preference comes from a need for mutual understanding regarding the professional demands of his career.

Kartik explains, “I would date an actress… Because she would understand my work. I’ve had breakups before, and often it was because of me being an actor. People from outside the industry don’t understand the pressures. So I feel that. An actress would understand me.”

Despite the public image of a movie star, Kartik’s take on his own behaviour in relationships is surprisingly relatable. He describes himself as someone who tends to over-invest in his partners. He reveals, “I give in too much. I’m a giver in a relationship. I’ve realised that this has been a problem at times.” When asked for further detail, he admits, “I have been taken for granted in relationships. Sometimes it goes the other way too.”

Despite these challenges, Kartik maintains a mature outlook on his past. He confirmed that his longest relationship lasted four years and that he remains on good terms with his former partners. When asked if he is friends with his exes, his answer was simple: “I am.”

Opening up about it, she said, “We live in a strange and unpredictable world, with all kinds of people. There is a lot of weirdness on social media, so always choose kindness. Please treat everyone around you well, make them laugh. Nothing is more important than this.”

In a previous interview with Esquire India, Priyanka had shared about keeping her interactions on social media limited. She opened up about how she approaches the personal and the professional on several platforms. “The personal, by sharing what makes me happy, moments in my life, my thoughts. Because I guess everyone’s social media is sort of a reflection of who they are and where they are in their lives, or the best version of it, for that matter. I like having fun with it,” she mentioned.

Priyanka further added that she also enjoys speaking about her work on social media. She said, “The professional [is how] I love being able to talk about the work that I do because I put a lot of effort into it. I love sharing that with people who are interested. And the political, I stay away from because that’s not my lane. I leave it to the people who actually have the information. I don’t enough about policy to chime in. I’m an actor and I like to stick to that.”
