Armaan Bhatia creates history at PWR DUPR India Masters

The much-anticipated Day 4 of PWR DUPR India Masters ended on a high, with India’s rising star Armaan Bhatia securing a win in all three matches. All the finals games, played at the Centre Court of the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) Stadium, were jam-packed with energy and intensity, as players fought fiercely to secure their much-deserved wins. The four-day event saw over 2,300 matches across 33 categories ranging from Under 12 to 60+, making this the largest pickleball tournament in Asia. The Pro (Open) categories featured some of the best Indian and international talent, who not only played their best but also showed immense support for other athletes competing across categories, highlighting the game’s community-driven spirit.

In the Pro (Open) Women’s Singles game, The USA’s Sofia Sewing won against Chinese-Taipei player Kao Pei-Chuan, securing wins in two back-to-back games. She scored 11-3 and 11-2 to achieve this feat.  In one of the most thrilling matches of the season, the Pro (Open) Men’s Singles, Armaan Bhatia got into an intense battle of the racquet with USA’s Dusty Boyer. After losing the first game 11-8, Armaan got into an intense battle with Dusty, cinching a win by a mere whisker as he scored 11-9. The third and final game of the match was equally intense, with Dusty taking the lead 8-0. However, Armaan fought back, quickly levelling the score to 8-8 and finally winning with a solid 11-8.
In the third Pro (Open) match of the day, The Australian-Dutch duo of Roos Van Reek and Kaitlynn Hart clinched the Women’s Doubles title after an action-packed game. They played against the Asian duo Yuchieh Hsieh & Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall, winning the first game 11-5. Hsieh-Wang-Beckvall fought back, winning the second game 11-8. In the third and final game, Reek-Hart won the battle with a 11-7 win.
The fourth Pro (Open) Finals match was the Mixed Doubles, wherein Indo-Dutch duo Armaan Bhatia and Roos Van Reek (who both won their earlier matches) defeated the Australian pair George Wall and Danni E. Townsend in the adrenaline-pumping match. Bhatia-van Reek won their first set 11-5, but Wall-Townsend made a strong comeback, securing 11-10 and levelling the match. In the deciding set, Bhatia-van Reek played relentlessly and won with a comfortable 11-1.

The final Pro (Open) match, featuring India’s Armaan Bhatia and Harsh Mehta won against Australian-American duo of Mitchell Hargreaves and Roman Estareja, with Armaan securing his third and final win of the night. In the first game, the Indian duo scored 11-3 and in the second set, they maintained their lead, sealing the deal with a sweet 11-2 win.

Talking about his experience, Armaan said, “I am glad to have played and won against some of the best pickleball players in the world. I’m honoured to have had this opportunity and thankful for all the love. I look forward to playing more such tournaments in India.” Tournament Director Mihir Khandelwal said, “The four days of the PWR DUPR India Masters have been truly amazing.
