Exclusive: Sohum Shah Gears Up for Extensive 200-day Shoot for Tumbbad 2

Sohum Shah is set to return with Tumbbad 2, the sequel to his acclaimed horror film that has, over the years, earned a cult following. As anticipation builds around the next chapter, excitement among fans continues to grow.
Amid this buzz, we have learnt that the team is preparing for an extensive shoot, mounting the sequel on a significantly larger scale.
According to a source close to the development, Tumbbad 2, backed by Sohum Shah Films in collaboration with Pen Studios, is being planned as a massive production, with a shoot schedule expected to span over 200 days, signalling the ambitious vision behind the film.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the period folk horror film was released in 2018. Tumbbad tells the story of a man obsessed with finding hidden treasure in a cursed village. Set against the backdrop of colonial India, the film visually stunning and deeply haunting that blends greed, mythology, and fear perfectly. It starred Sohum Shah, along with Jyoti Malshe, Anita Date-Kelkar, Rohini Chakraborty, Mohammad Samad and Rudra Soni, among others. It was re-released in theatres last year and received a lot of appreciation from the audience.

Meanwhile, a massive set is currently being constructed in Mumbai, as per Hindustan Times. It will be spread across 7 to 8 acres and will resemble a ‘full-scale city’. It will reportedly be used for the first schedule of the film. Details around the plot has been kept under wraps so far but Sohum will be reprising his role. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has also joined the cast as the antagonist.

Talking about his role, he said, “Tumbbad has always been a film I admired for its originality and atmospheric storytelling. When Sohum shared the vision for the sequel, I liked the story and joined them on their journey.”
