EXCLUSIVE: Daggubati Suresh Babu discusses impact of rising ticket prices and benefits of box office clashes in South cinema for film’s success

Leading film producer and exhibitor Daggubati Suresh Babu recently sat for an exclusive exhibitor interview with Pinkvilla. During the conversation, the filmmaker was asked about his opinion on the increasing price of film tickets in Indian theaters.

Sharing his thoughts, Suresh Babu said, “See, the better town who are maintaining the pricing control today is Tamil Nadu. They’ve kept the ticket prices to an upper limit of Rs 190. In Telugu, we have a pricing barrier regularly but the government is allowing us to increase prices for star films.”

“Now, is that good or bad…cause big film players want it because that’s the only way they feel like they can get out of trouble. But is it good overall? Because different viewpoints, you sell tickets on Rs 500 or Rs 100 off the shelf, now will a common man come and watch the film in the rest of the month? His quota of a film is over,” he further added.

Suresh Babu also shared his views on how watching cinema has become expensive, “I personally feel that prices should not be high. We are making cinema very expensive for people. Cinema is an experience, but now a man thinks whether that experience is a viable one. Is it really worthwhile, or am I overcharged? If I’m finding it an overcharge, I treat it like an event…like a festival or a big star film. Rest, I’ll watch on OTT.”

The filmmaker explained that rising prices have alienated certain audiences from cinema, leaving only a small demographic of viewers.

In the same conversation, Suresh Babu also explained how clash releases can be beneficial for a film’s success. The filmmaker revealed that when there are clash releases, more people talk about the movies, making them a popular topic of discussion.

The exhibitor said, “In Pongal times, Ajith is fighting Vijay…NTR, Balakrishna, Venkatesh…this theater is available, that one is not. So everybody’s mind is about cinema, it becomes front page news. We have to be on the minds of people. If you are able to make cinema the conversation piece, then it is very good.”

Peaky Blinders Movie: Latest Updates, First Look, & Everything We Know So Far

The fans of Peaky Blinders have got a huge reason to express their joy. One of the most loved con and gangster series is coming to the screens but this time as a film. Moreover, Cillian Murphy has reprised his iconic role as Tommy Shelby, who we all know as the legendary leader in the series.

Recently Netflix amazed its fans by sharing a mindblowing post on X (formerly Twitter) about the film. While it had an intriguing caption, the post also had two noteworthy images.

“By order of the Peaky Blinders… Tommy Shelby is back,” the caption on the post read which was shared by the streamer. The caption also gave details such as the lead actor, Murphy, and Steven Knight coming back on the set, to work on the production that has officially begun.

In one of the two pictures shared on the internet, on September 30, 2024, one could notice that the Oppenheimer actor has silver hair, as he stands in front of a dark brick wall.

This could simply mean that the movie is taking place sometime in the future.

Meanwhile, Collider has mentioned that Tom Hardy, who played the character of Alfie Solomons has shared his interest in returning to the franchise once again.

While we have had our word of the production being on the roll, plot details are still at large. However, Steven Knight spilled a few beans during his interview with Esquire.

“The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell. How the story will unfold, I don’t know,” Knight stated.

Knight then also mentioned that he wants to keep the doors open for the future events, following the film. Further detailing the plot, Knight went on to add, “In series six” they will introduce a new generation and that this generation will be a huge part of the film.

“I think it’s finding those actors that you just watch, and you think, there you go. There’s the future,” he concluded.

As per a few reports, the film will also star a bunch of great actors besides the star from The Dark Knight Rises, such as Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson as well as Tim Roth.
