Dhurandhar Becomes First Indian Franchise to Cross Rs 3000 Crore

Dhurandhar has just achieved something no Indian franchise has managed before. The two films together have now crossed the Rs 3000 crore mark worldwide, setting a massive new benchmark for Indian cinema on the global stage. Backed by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the franchise has also become the only Indian film series where both instalments individually entered the Rs 1000 crore club, highlighting its rare consistency and scale.

Dhurandhar

The journey began with the first Dhurandhar, which released amid cautious trade expectations despite decent buzz. However, once it hit theatres, the film quickly turned into a box office phenomenon. Strong word of mouth, repeat value and audience curiosity around its storyline helped it sustain an extraordinary run for weeks. It eventually crossed Rs 1300 crore worldwide, while also emerging as one of the biggest Hindi hits ever with over Rs 1000 crore gross, laying a solid foundation for a long term franchise.

Building on that momentum, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge took things to an entirely different level. Led by Ranveer Singh, the sequel opened to huge anticipation and delivered beyond expectations. It has already collected over Rs 1700 crore globally and continues to perform strongly in several markets. The film also created history by becoming the first to cross Rs 1000 crore net in a single language at the Indian box office, further strengthening the franchise’s dominance.

Dhurandhar

What makes this achievement even more impressive is the consistency across both films. Each instalment not only delivered record breaking numbers but also showed remarkable staying power in theatres, driven by mass appeal, high octane action and strong audience connect. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the series has redefined the scale of action storytelling in Hindi cinema. More than just a milestone, crossing Rs 3000 crore signals a shift in how Indian franchises are now perceived globally, proving they can stand shoulder to shoulder with the biggest film series in the world.

Everything We Are Watching This Week: Bhooth Bangla and more

April 2026 is shaping up to be a fun time for Bollywood lovers with a bunch of fresh releases dropping across theatres and OTT. From spooky laughs to offbeat comedy and intense drama, there’s a bit of everything lined up. One of the biggest highlights is Bhooth Bangla with Akshay Kumar, alongside Toaster starring Rajkummar Rao, both bringing very different flavours of entertainment. Overall, mid-April looks packed for anyone in the mood to binge something new.

Bhooth Bangla

Bhooth Bangla marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan after 14 years, which itself has fans excited. Releasing on April 17 with paid previews starting a night earlier, the film is set in Mangalpur and follows Arjun Acharya, who inherits a haunted palace. Despite warnings about a curse linked to a supernatural force called Vadhusur, he decides to host his sister’s wedding there, setting the stage for chaos, comedy and eerie moments. The film also features Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani in key roles.

Toaster
On the OTT front, Toaster arrives on Netflix on April 15, 2026. This dark comedy revolves around Ramakant, a miserly man who becomes obsessed with getting back an expensive toaster he had gifted at a wedding that gets cancelled. What starts off as a simple mission quickly spirals into a messy chain of events filled with crime and absurd humour. The film stars Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra, with Archana Puran Singh and Abhishek Banerjee in supporting roles, and also marks the first production from KAMPA Films, founded by Rajkummar and Patralekhaa.

Do Deewane Sehar Mein

Do Deewane Seher Mein offers a softer, more emotional watch. Starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur, the film is set in a fast-paced city and follows two people who never quite feel like they belong. When they meet, they find comfort in each other and slowly build a meaningful connection while dealing with their own struggles. After its theatrical release earlier this year, it is expected to drop on Netflix on April 17.

Matka King

For those who enjoy gritty stories, Matka King is a series to watch out for. Led by Vijay Varma and directed by Nagraj Manjule, it’s set in 1960s Mumbai and explores the rise of a man in the world of matka betting. The show dives into crime, power and ambition, with performances from Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar and Gulshan Grover adding depth to the narrative. It premieres on Amazon Prime Video on April 17.

Assi

Another intense watch is Assi, starring Taapsee Pannu and directed by Anubhav Sinha. This courtroom drama focuses on investigation and legal battles while touching on social issues. It features a strong supporting cast including Kani Kusruti, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra and Naseeruddin Shah. While the film released in theatres earlier, it is expected to arrive on ZEE5 around April 17, although an official confirmation is still awaited.

Gorillaz Frontman Damon Albarn Remembers Asha Bhosle Pens a Moving Tribute

Asha Bhosle’s final musical outing before her passing was an unexpected yet interesting collaboration with British virtual band Gorillaz on an experimental, India-inspired track. The band’s album The Mountain (Parvat) featured the song The Shadowy Light, which carried Bhosle’s distinctive voice. The song features musician Gruff Rhys, flautist Ajay Prasanna and sarod maestros Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, along with Asha Bhosle.

Now, Damon Albarn, frontman of the band, has shared a moving tribute honouring the late singer.
Taking to Instagram, he shared a couple of throwback pictures with Bhosle and wrote, “Asha Bhosle was someone I had admired from afar for many years, her voice was my gateway to the marvellous world of Bollywood. I met her twice in Mumbai and was entranced by her grace and poise at the age of 91. The memory of sitting cross-legged playing R. D. Burman’s harmonium while she sang will stay with me forever. I send my deepest condolences to her lovely family. Asha, you had the voice of an angel, we love you.”

About Gorillaz
Gorillaz is an English virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The band is known for its unique concept, featuring four fictional members: 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs. Albarn is the only permanent musician contributor.
Meanwhile, a couple of weeks ago, Asha Bhosle shared a post in collaboration with Gorillaz, talking about the track The Shadowy Light.

She wrote, “The song ‘The Shadowy Light’ holds deep meaning for me. Visiting Varanasi and travelling along the most sacred river Ganges, observing closely what I saw, I understood the meaning of life, who I was and what I was supposed to do on earth. On ‘The Shadowy Light’, my crossing this deep river signifies my life’s journey… my birth, my relationships, my dedication to music, my achievements and my duties as a daughter, mother, sister, wife and a Hindu Indian. The boatman is my music, my guide across this river of life and when I get to the other side, my journey shall be complete. I shall attain moksha (ultimate freedom) wherein I shall become one of the thousands of sounds floating all around us. If you put some of them together, they form a beautiful tune. Therefore, I shall become one of those sounds, which shall eventually become a musical note in a beautiful song which shall be heard by several generations for thousands of years. This freedom to become one with nature is what awaits me on the other side of the river.” – Asha Bhosle”
