A case has been filed against three men for assaulting a Dalit groom and threatening to kill him if he did not dismount his horse during his wedding procession in Agra. The accused also hurled casteist slurs, broke portraits of Dr BR Ambedkar and Gautam Buddha, and attacked the groom’s grandfather.

Videos of the incident, showing the tonsured youths being escorted by the police on Monday, quickly went viral. The controversy prompted BJP MLA Gayatri Raje Puar to meet with Dewas Superintendent of Police (SP) Punit Gehlot on Tuesday.
