Justice Yashwant Varma took oath as a judge of Allahabad high court despite an ongoing in-house inquiry over semi-burnt cash recovered from his residence. There’s no judicial work assigned for now. A PIL was filed to halt the ceremony, and the legal fraternity criticized the decision, urging the Chief Justice to reconsider until the investigation concludes.

On April 2, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was submitted before the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench seeking an order to its Chief Justice to refrain from administering the oath to Justice Yashwant Varma.
