The Karnataka High Court has dismissed two pleas to continue investigating Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in a disproportionate assets case. The pleas were filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the other by BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal.

The state government had withdrawn an earlier order – passed by the BJP government led by former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa – for an inquiry by the federal agency.

BJP leader Giriraj Singh compared West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un over her statement that unrest in Bengal would spill over to other states. This sparked further criticism from BJP, including remarks from Assam CM, who warned Banerjee against using divisive language and making threats.

Expressing concern over the financial condition, the Chief Minister said the revenue deficit grant for 2023-24 was Rs 8,058 crore, which has been reduced by Rs 1,800 crore to Rs 6,258 crore this fiscal.
