Kanguva (Hindi) Day One Box Office: Suriya’s movie debuts bigger than Leo, Indian 2, The GOAT and Vettaiyan; Registers Rs 3.35 crore net opening

Kanguva directed by Siruthai Siva and starring Suriya, Bobby Deol and Disha Patani among others, took a reasonably good start at the Hindi box office as the movie managed a net business of around Rs 3.25-3.50 crore (Rs 4 crore gross) on the opening day. It has actually registered the biggest opening for a Kollywood film in Hindi since November 2018 and that is a remarkable feat because it is difficult for regional films, particularly Kollywood films, to make inroads in the Hindi market from the opening day itself, like this Suriya starrer, without a recognised IP.

Kanguva Takes The Biggest Opening For A Kollywood Film In Hindi Since 2.0; Nets Rs 3.35 Crore

Kanguva has opened bigger than the likes of Leo, The Goat, Ponniyin Selvan I, Ponniyin Selvan II, Vettaiyan, Indian 2 and others in Hindi. Leo, The GOAT and Vettaiyan didn’t see a release in top national chains like PVRInox and Cinepolis because the makers were not ready to adhere to the terms set by the multiplex chains for dubbed Hindi releases. The opening of Kanguva is almost the same as Pushpa: The Rise, which went on to net over Rs 100 crore in Hindi. The difference is that Pushpa’s word of mouth was very good while Suriya’s mystical has opened to mixed to negative reports. It is these reports that will be affecting it the most in the days to come.

Kanguva Has Taken A Gross India Opening Of Around Rs 28-29 Crore As Per Early Estimates

The all India gross opening of Kanguva is in the vicinity of Rs 28-29 crore as per early estimates. While it is Suriya’s highest, it had to be much higher given the hype, the promotions, the scale and all the other factors. The movie will obviously be seeing a significant drop in its collections on Friday and the extended opening weekend in India may probably shock many.

Boney Kapoor, Mona Kapoor’s divorce led Anshula Kapoor into her own shell, admits Arjun Kapoor’s sister; ‘people started talking about my upbringing’

Anshula Kapoor is the daughter of Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor and his first wife, Mona Shourie. She has established her name as a writer, body positivity advocate, and entrepreneur. Recently, she shared how her parents’ separation in her childhood shaped her years growing up. Moreover, she explained how people judged them and negatively commented on her family values after it.

Anshula Kapoor, who recently sat down for an interview with Hautterfly, reflected on her childhood days after her parent’s separation. For those unaware, Boney married Mona in 1983 and separated in 1996. They had two children, Arjun and Anshula, who continued to live with their mother.

However, when the filmmaker married Sridevi after his separation, it raised many eyebrows in the 90s and made their family a subject of discussion. The multitude of perspectives and negative comments about their family values and upbringing affected Anshula.

She said, “People started talking about family values, my upbringing etc… I resigned into my own shell and was trying to figure out what this new normal was all about.”

Earlier, on a Discovery Plus show, the 2 States actor revealed that he gained 150 kg at the age of 16 weight after his parent’s separation because he found comfort in food. In addition  he had asthma and other health problems.

Despite her issues, she witnessed her mother, Mona Shourie’s strength. Kapoor recalled everyone, including their father, mother, and uncle. Sanjay Kapoor became busy with their lives. But, her mother became a ‘one-man army’ doing her work and looking after her kids.

The entrepreneur noted, “Eventually, when we moved to our own space, Mom had to become a one-person army. She was the caretaker, the love giver, the problem solver, and the breadwinner. She was both parents in one, and it was like she had ten hands to take care of us.”

Mona Shourie was a well-known TV serial producer. But, she passed away in 2012 due to multiple organ failure and dealing with cancer, a few days before her son, Arjun Kapoor made his debut in Ishaqzaade, co-starring Parineeti Chopra.

India Tests Latest Pinaka System As France, Armenia Line-Up To Buy Rockets

Amid a rise in global demand for it, India today successfully completed the flight-test of its advanced guided weapon system Pinaka. During the test, the Pinaka system’s range, accuracy, consistency and rate of fire for multiple target engagement in a salvo mode were assessed.

“Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO has successfully completed the flight-tests of Guided Pinaka Weapon System as part of Provisional Staff Qualitative Requirements (PSQR) validation trials,” the Defence Ministry said today, adding that the flight-tests have been conducted in three phases at different field firing ranges.

“Twelve rockets from each production agency from two in-service Pinaka launchers upgraded by the launcher production agencies have been tested,” the statement said.

With this, New Delhi’s defence manufacturing push under ‘Make in India’ is gaining momentum. France has recently showed interest in the Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher or MBRL system to bolster its defences.

THE PINAKA SYSTEM

The Pinaka system, considered on par with America’s HIMARS system, has been India’s first major defence export as conflict-hit Armenia had placed the first order. Now France has also shown interest in the advanced rocket system to boost its army’s artillery division. In fact, talks are already at a fairly advanced stage, sources familiar with the matter said, adding that France has decided to test the system in the coming weeks.

Named after Lord Shiva’s divine bow, the Pinaka rocket system was a replacement for the Russian Grad BM-21 rocket launcher for the Indian Army. It was first deployed during the 1999 Kargil War. The Pinaka system had played a pivotal role in destroying Pakistani positions at strategic heights during the war.

The Pinaka rocket system is developed by Armament Research & Development Establishment or ARDE, which comes under the DRDO. The system comprises of a free-flight artillery rocket having a maximum range of 38 km with different types of warheads and fuzes. It comes with a multi-tube launcher vehicle, a replenishment-cum-loader vehicle, a replenishment vehicle, and a command post vehicle.

The multi-barrel rocket system has two pods containing 6 rockets each, capable of firing all 12 rockets in salvo mode within 44 seconds, neutralizing a target area of 700 x 500 meters. For the Indian Army’s specific requirement of a free flight rocket with enhanced range, ARDE has successfully developed the Pinaka Mk-II rocket with a 60-km range. The existing launch vehicle and ground systems of Pinaka MBRS is used for the Mk-II as well, with minor modifications for firing this new rocket.

A battery can fire 72 rockets. Each launcher can now be operated independently and rockets can be fired individually or simultaneously in different directions. The launcher may be operated in manual, remote, stand alone, and autonomous modes. Its shoot-and-scoot capabilities also enable it to escape counter battery fire.

The current version of the Pinaka system is a guided one, which means that the rockets have seekers, which are used for precision strikes. Because of it becoming a guided system, it has now been able to increase its range to nearly double of what the first version was. The DRDO is now working on a guided Pinaka system which is capable of ranges greater than 120 km, 150 km, and 200 km to counter China’s long-range guided rocket systems.

GLOBAL INTEREST

The system is already in service with the Indian Army and deployed both at the LoC with Pakistan and LAC with China. It was also reportedly delivered to Armenia via Iran in 2023 to bolster its defence against Azerbaijan.

France’s move to consider buying the Pinaka system is part of the effort to boost defence and strategic ties between the two nations. France is India’s second biggest defence supplier after Russia. The recent T AC 295 transport aircraft deal and the Rafael deal are testament to Paris and New Delhi’s steadfast defence ties.
