The Election Commission of India has declared that the election for the Vice President of India is scheduled for September 9, 2025. As per the ECI’s released schedule, the deadline for submitting nominations is August 21. The counting of votes will occur on the same day as the election, September 9.

Several leaders from Opposition parties have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging him to immediately schedule a special discussion on the ongoing voter list revision.

The breakthrough marks the first major thaw since Sept 2023, when Canada accused Indian diplomats of backing Khalistani-linked violence, sparking a near two-year standoff.
