Is Tobey Maguires Spider Man Returning With Spider-Man 4?
Tobey Maguire had played the role of Spider-Man from 2002 to 2007. He starred as the superhero in Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3, all directed by Sam Raimi. Ever since the discontinuation of his franchise, fans have been particularly eager to know whether the actor would ever return as Spider-Man for future installations. Hopes were higher when he returned as the superhero, only to support Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Interestingly, the co-writer of The Batman and The Batman 2, Mattson Tomlin has been trying to make Tobey’s return happen. While there hasn’t been a definite answer, the writer has shared that he hasn’t been asked to completely discard the idea yet. In a tweet about the same, Tomlin answered a fan’s question about the possibility of Spider-Man 4. He replied, “Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me, but I haven’t gotten a “no” yet!’
In an earlier tweet, the writer had also answered about the themes he would want to explore for Spider-Man 4. Opening up about the various ideas, Tomlin shared that he would be willing to write a story where Spider-Man will be seen “juggling being a husband and a father.”
“Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards, given the last 8 films.”
The Spider-Man franchise, starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst had ended abruptly. While there were talks to bring in a fourth movie, the makers shifted towards a complete reboot with Andrew Garfield.
