WeWork Founder Living In A Lavish New Miami Home As Company Goes Bankrupt: Report

Office space-sharing giant WeWork filed for bankruptcy in the United States last week, after the company struggled to recover from the effects of Covid-19 and its failed initial public offering in 2019. Even as the company is financially struggling, the company’s founder, Adam Neumann, has made headlines for his extravagant lifestyle. Notably, the American-Israeli entrepreneur was ousted after failing to take the company public through an initial public offering in 2019. But thanks to a hefty payout, Mr Neumann is now living in a ‘lavish’ new home in Florida while building his new company, The New York Post reported.

The 44-year-old still has a net worth of $1.7 billion and owns millions in real estate. At present, he is living his best life in a luxurious mansion worth $40 million, with his wife Rebekah, and six children. He had purchased two Miami properties from local investor Joseph Imbesi for $44 million in an off-market deal, as per Fox News. A 14,500-square-foot house was being built on the property at the time and it is now where Mr Neumann and his family live full-time. The sprawling mansion boasts breathtaking waterfront views, opulent amenities, and extravagant features.

A source said, ”Adam skateboards all the time, all over town, taking business calls. Everybody runs into him — he’s very friendly. He stops and kibitzes with people.” He is currently looking for investors for another startup, claiming that it will reshape the world in the home this time.

As per The Post, Mr Newman is a close friend of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump and their children, who live 10 minutes away from their home. The couple are also said to be a big part of the Jewish community.

Prior to his departure from WeWork, Mr Newman had spent $90 million to purchase luxury residential real estate in the Hamptons, New York City, and Westchester County, New York, and San Francisco, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Last year, Mr Neumann launched a new company called Flow that will operate in the residential real estate space.

Notably, Mr Neumann founded WeWork in 2010, and by 2019, it was worth $47 billion. When Mr Neumann left the company, a significant amount of wealth was accumulated as it prepared for another public offering- time through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). In 2021, Mr Neumann reportedly received $480 million from SoftBank for half of his remaining WeWork stock as part of that SPAC process. Overall, it is believed that Mr Neumann made over $770 million in cash from the 2021 SPAC process alone, despite having been removed from a management position years ago.

He recently stated that WeWork’s bankruptcy filing is “disappointing” and it has been hard for him to watch the company struggle. Meanwhile, a former WeWork staffer told The Post that the morale at the company is “horrific,” adding that “there is no company culture and everybody is just watching the stock go down, down, down.”

Atishi Submits Report To Arvind Kejriwal Over Complaint Against Delhi Chief Secretary

Delhi Vigilance Minister Atishi has submitted a 650-page primary report to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with a complaint against Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar regarding the Bamnoli land acquisition matter, official sources said on Tuesday.

The complaint alleged that the chief secretary’s son was employed by a relative of a man who was awarded enhanced compensation for his land acquired for a road project.

“Atishi has submitted a 650-page report on the matter to Kejriwal. The report states that an undue gain of Rs 850 crore was earned in the matter. The land was bought near the Dwarka expressway at Rs 75 lakh only in 2015,” a source said.

There was no immediate reaction from the chief secretary.

Mr Kejriwal had asked Atishi to conduct an inquiry into the complaint.

The original award of the 19-acre land at Bamnoli, being acquired by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), was raised from Rs 41 crore to Rs 353 crore in May this year by the then district magistrate (South West) Hemant Kumar.

Hemant Kumar was later suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs in connection with the matter.

In a press conference on Monday, Delhi government Divisional Commissioner Ashwani Kumar said the allegations levelled against Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar are baseless and part of “dirty politics”.

Man Sentenced To Death For Raping, Murdering 5-Year-Old Girl In Kerala

A court in Kerala on Tuesday sentenced to death the man convicted in the horrific Aluva child rape and murder case. Special POCSO (Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences) court judge K Soman directed that convict Ashwaq Alam be hanged to death for killing a 5-year-old girl from Bihar, public prosecutor (PP) G Mohanraj said.

The death sentence would be carried out after confirmation by the Kerala High Court, the prosecutor said.

Giving details of the sentences given to Alam, a migrant labourer from Bihar, the prosecutor told the media outside the court that the convict was given five life terms for the various offences of rape and aggravated penetrative sexual assault under the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.

The court ordered that the life term would mean the convict should stay in prison for the rest of his natural life, the PP said.

The court also imposed a fine of over Rs six lakh on the convict, he said, and expressed satisfaction with the sentence.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the punishment given in the case on Children’s Day should be seen as a strong warning to those who commit violence against children.

The chief minister said that the child fell victim to the most heinous crime and therefore, the entire criminal justice system worked efficiently to catch the culprit and ensure the maximum punishment for him.

Mr Vijayan said that while nothing can replace the loss suffered by the parents, the government has assured all kinds of help to them.

ADGP (Law and Order) M R Ajith Kumar also welcomed the sentence given to the convict.

Speaking to reporters outside the court after the sentence was pronounced, the ADGP said it was a case which shocked the conscience of Kerala and the government right from the start was determined to ensure the maximum possible punishment for the accused.

“It is one of the rarest-of-rare cases and the prosecution was able to prove that successfully. The probe was completed in 30 days. The accused was convicted on the 100th day after the incident and today marks the 110th day. This indicates the robustness of the criminal justice system,” the officer said.

State Health Minister Veena George also welcomed the verdict and said it would send out a strong message to society that children should not be harmed.

“We all had hoped for the maximum punishment and the court gave that,” she told reporters.

The minister appreciated that the probe and the trial were completed in “record time”.

She also said that society needs to be aware of the rights of children and protect them.

Meanwhile, one of the eyewitnesses in the case who had seen Alam walking away with the child on that fateful day, was overjoyed with the punishment given to the convict and distributed candy to people.

“The little girl’s soul will now attain peace,” he told reporters.

The sentence was pronounced on a date celebrated as Children’s Day across the country.

The date also marks the 11th anniversary of the POCSO Act, which came into effect on November 14, 2012.

The victim’s parents were present in court when the punishment was given to Alam, who was convicted on November 4.

The prosecution had argued that the case falls under the rarest-of-rare category and therefore, the death penalty should be given to the convict.

During arguments on sentence, Alam had claimed in court that the other accused were let go and only he was caught in the case and, beyond that, he did not make any other submission, the prosecution had said.

The court had found Alam guilty of all 16 offences in the charge sheet.

Of the 16, five offences are punishable by death, the prosecution had said earlier.

The minor girl was brutally raped and strangled to death on July 28 after she was abducted from her rented house here.

The body of the girl was found dumped in a stack in a marshy area behind a local market in nearby Aluva and the accused was arrested based on CCTV visuals.
