In a tragic incident, acclaimed Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta has passed away. He was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday after reportedly falling from the roof of his residence in Kolkata’s Gariahat area and sustaining critical injuries.

Anik was the grandson of Narendra Chandra Dutta, the founder of United Bank of India. Arjun Dasâ team dismisses wedding rumours amid social media buzz

Actor Arjun Das found himself at the centre of social media speculation on Wednesday after rumours about his alleged wedding began circulating online. Several posts claimed that the actor, known for his deep voice and intense performances in films such as Kaithi and Aneethi, was preparing to get engaged this week and would soon make an official announcement.

Rumours around Arjun Das’ personal life spark online chatter

The rumours quickly spread across social media platforms, with fan pages and entertainment handles sharing unverified claims about the actor’s personal life. Some posts even suggested that wedding festivities were already underway behind closed doors. As the chatter intensified, many fans began waiting for confirmation from Arjun Das or his team.

The timing of the speculation also raised eyebrows among netizens because it coincided with renewed conversations around his long-delayed romantic drama Once More, co-starring Aditi Shankar. A section of social media users wondered whether the rumours were linked to promotional activity for the film, especially given the growing trend of unconventional marketing campaigns around movie releases.

However, the speculation was swiftly shut down by the actor’s team. Arjun Das’ publicist took to X to clarify that the reports were completely false. In the statement shared online, he wrote, “Dear all, this is to clarify that there is no truth in rumours doing the rounds about actor Arjun Das’s wedding. Request friends from the media to please check with us and verify facts before putting out such news reports.” (sic)

The clarification soon put an end to the rumours, though discussions around the actor continued to trend among fans throughout the day.

Focus shifts back to Arjun Das’ upcoming projects

With the rumours now dismissed, attention has once again shifted towards Arjun Das’ upcoming film slate. The actor was last seen in Kumki 2 and is currently gearing up for the release of Con City, an action entertainer directed by Harish Durairaj.

Apart from Con City, fans are also awaiting updates on Once More, directed by Vignesh Srikanth. The romantic entertainer was initially expected to release around Valentine’s Day in 2025, but the film was postponed indefinitely. More recently, the makers announced that the film would arrive in theatres sometime this summer, though an exact release date is yet to be revealed.

Over the past few years, Arjun Das has steadily built a reputation for himself with supporting and lead performances that stand out for their intensity and screen presence. He first gained widespread attention through Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Kaithi, where his menacing performance earned him strong audience recall despite limited screen time. Since then, the actor has continued to experiment across genres, balancing thrillers, action dramas, and romantic subjects.

Saravananâs Leader Heads to OTT After Mixed Theatrical Reception

Following its theatrical release earlier this year, Leader, starring Saravanan in the lead role, is now set for its digital premiere. The action thriller will begin streaming on Prime Video from May 29. Directed by RS Durai Senthilkumar, the film hit theatres on April 3 and opened to mixed-to-positive responses from audiences and critics.

The film revolves around an ordinary father and his young daughter whose peaceful lives spiral into danger after a feared gangster crosses paths with them. Positioned as an emotional action drama, Leader attempted to blend family sentiment with commercial thriller elements. While reactions to the screenplay remained divided, the film managed to draw attention for its performances and action-driven treatment.

The theatrical run of Leader turned out to be modestly successful at the box office, especially in select centres where family audiences connected with its emotional core. Saravanan’s performance also became a talking point as the actor continued his transition into mainstream cinema following his debut with The Legend.

Ensemble cast and Durai Senthilkumar’s commercial touch

Apart from Saravanan, Leader features an ensemble cast including Shaam, Andrea Jeremiah, Santhosh Prathap, Payal Rajput, Lal, Amritha Aiyer and VTV Ganesh in pivotal roles. Supporting performances from the ensemble were widely appreciated for adding weight to the film’s dramatic moments.

Director RS Durai Senthilkumar, known for delivering commercially mounted entertainers, made his debut with Ethir Neechal, starring Sivakarthikeyan. He later went on to direct films such as Kaaki Sattai, Kodi, Pattas and Garudan, establishing a reputation for blending action with emotional storytelling. With Leader, the filmmaker once again leaned into a mass-oriented narrative built around family emotions and revenge drama.

The OTT release is expected to give the film a wider reach among audiences who may have missed it during its theatrical run. In recent years, several mid-budget Tamil films have found renewed traction after arriving on streaming platforms, often discovering a second life among home viewers.

For Saravanan, Leader marks another step in his attempt to carve out space as a full-fledged commercial hero. The actor, who entered films with the high-profile The Legend, has steadily been experimenting with action-driven subjects aimed at mainstream audiences. With its streaming debut around the corner, Leader now gets another opportunity to connect with viewers beyond theatres.
