“Shark Had His…” Says Witness, Search On For Surfer’s Body: Australia

Australian authorities searched today for the remains of a 55-year-old surfer after a witness reportedly saw an attack by a large shark that “had his body in his mouth”.

There has been no trace of the victim since the marine predator struck Tuesday morning near the popular surfing spot of Granites Beach in South Australia, police said.

“The man’s body is yet to be found and the search resumed early this morning,” police said in a statement.

A 70-year-old surfer at the scene when the attack happened, Ian Brophy, said he was about to enter the water when someone yelled: “Shark!”

“As I turned around, I saw the shark go and just launch and bite,” he told Adelaide’s The Advertiser newspaper.

Brophy said he saw the predator go “over the top of the guy and bite and drag him down under the water and then nothing for a minute or two and blood everywhere and then up pops the board”.

“I saw him in the wave and the shark had his body in his mouth — it was pretty gruesome,” he said.

Within a few minutes, there was no sign of the surfer’s body.

“It took every bit of him, I think.”

Jeff Schmucker, a local resident, told national broadcaster ABC that he used his jet ski to help emergency services search for the surfer.

Schmucker said he went to the area of the attack and soon saw a great white shark “the length of a sedan car” — but he could not be sure if it was the killer.

Great white sharks are known to prowl South Australia’s coastline.

A teacher was mauled to death in May about 120 kilometres (75 miles) from the site of Tuesday’s attack.

The number of shark bites has increased over the past four decades due to factors such as human population growth and climate change, according to shark expert Charlie Huveneers from Flinders University.

As oceans get warmer, ecosystems are being forced to adapt and sharks may be following their prey and moving closer to shores, where they are more likely to come into contact with humans.

Huveneers told AFP that sharks sometimes attack humans because they mistake them for their usual prey, but also due to curiosity, hunger, self-defence and aggression.

In A First, Walt Disney World Resort In US Hosts Diwali Festivities

In a first, Diwali festivities reverberated at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida as hundreds of dancers showcased the culture and heritage of India through performances in celebration of the festival of lights for a global audience at the iconic American destination.

The first-ever Youth Celebration of Diwali was hosted by Jashn Productions with over 400 dancers from across the country celebrating the festival of lights through dance performances at Disney Springs, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, a press release issued here said.

The Dance Fest led under the direction of Jeanie Beri, founder of Jashn Productions was a three-day event comprising vibrant colours, costumes and performances by dancers from around North America.

“Bringing Diwali to Walt Disney World Resort for the first time ever was so exhilarating,” Beri said. “We created history by sharing the joy and excitement of this important festival with the South Asian dance community. Celebrating the magic of Diwali in ‘The Most Magical Place on Earth’ was truly a dream come true.” Beri said Jashn Productions is looking forward to bringing people together to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of South Asia with more events like the Diwali Dance Fest.

The festival, from October 26-28, kicked off with an official parade at Disney Springs, where dancers performed a 20-minute choreographed piece while parading through the streets of Disney Springs.

The Dance Fest Showcase, held at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, included 17 dance schools and performances from various regions of India including Gujarat, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh weaving elements of pop and hip-hop.

The Diwali Dance Fest was the first of its kind celebration that gave children the opportunity to showcase their talent on a world-renowned platform, the release added. Over 1,000 guests experienced the sights and sounds of Diwali as the iconic Disney park reverberated with sounds of Indian music and colourful costumes.

Walt Disney’s iconic Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse opened the event alongside specially-abled children. Jashn Productions donated USD 10K to the N-Lorem Foundation whose mission is to develop and provide personalized experimental medicines free of cost to patients with nano-rare conditions.

“The Showcase was not just a celebration of a cultural tradition but a representation of unity and the power of art to bridge gaps and bring people together,” California-based ICC Bollywood directors Amit and Hiren said in the release.

Ramen Or Noodles? No More Confusion! Know Main Differences Between The Two

If you’re a fan of Asian cuisine, you must’ve had ramen and noodles at some point. You must be wondering why we are mentioning them as different. Aren’t they supposed to be the same? Well, this is a common belief, but it’s not at all true. While both are made using wheat flour dough and served with different sauces and broths, there are many other things that set them apart. Whether you’re an Asian food lover or someone who likes to be updated with their food knowledge, it’s good to know the differences between these two popular dishes. Without further ado, let’s gain a deeper understanding of them below.

What Is Ramen?

Ramen is a popular Japanese-style noodle dish. The fact that they are served in a broth is what makes them so unique. The broth usually includes flavours of soy sauce or miso and includes meat or vegetables. Ramen is further topped with different ingredients, such as eggs, scallions, etc.

What Are Noodles?

Noodles do not have one particular characteristic. They include different varieties of noodles, including ramen. So while ramen is a type of noodle, not all noodles are ramen. Noodles can include rice noodles, soba, spaghetti, and more. No one thing makes them unique, as they are all made using different ingredients and methods.

Ramen Vs Noodles: What Are The Differences Between The Two:

1. Difference in ingredients:

The types of ingredients that are used to make ramen and noodles differ to a great extent. Ramen is made with wheat flour, salt, water, and a type of alkaline water called kansui. This last ingredient is what sets them apart from regular noodles. Noodles, on the other hand, are made using the first three ingredients alone. Ramen is always served in a broth, whereas noodles are flavoured with a variety of sauces.

2. Difference in preparation:

The preparation style of ramen and noodles is also not the same. While both are boiled, ramen is cooked in kansui water. Once done, it is rinsed with cold water to remove the excess starch and then added to the broth. This process is called blanching and helps give it its distinct chewy texture. Whereas noodles are simply boiled in salted water, drained, and then served with the desired sauce or topping.

3. Difference in texture:

If you look closely, you’ll also notice a difference in texture between the two. Ramen is usually thicker in texture as compared to regular noodles. They are not as thick as other varieties, but they have a somewhat medium thickness and a chewy texture. Whereas noodles come in a variety of forms and are known for having a thinner consistency with a smoother texture.

4. Difference in flavour:

Ramen and noodles have a different flavour profile as well. The former is known for having a distinct umami flavour. This primarily comes from the broth and seasonings that are served with it. Noodles, on the other hand, can be flavoured in a variety of different ways too, depending on the sauces you use. However, they may not have that umami flavour that is in ramen.

So, the next time you find yourself confused between ramen and noodles, you’ll know exactly what sets them apart.
