Cannes 2026: Alia Bhatt Says She Mindfully Kept This Years Itinerary Calm and Not Chaotic

Alia Bhatt returned to the Cannes Film Festival once again and turned heads with her back-to-back magnificent looks. She walked the red carpet as the global ambassador for L’Oreal Paris.
She also sat down for a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India and spoke about representing India on an international platform. The actress also spoke about her ‘chaotic’ Cannes debut last year. The actress shared, “Last year started with a lot of chaos because I landed and I went straight into the red carpet. So this time, I was mindful of trying to find a bit of calm within the chaos. I had a nice lunch, I walked around, I watched a movie.”

In the same conversation, Alia touched upon other topics as well, such as celebrating her 19th birthday on the sets of Highway and her daughter, Raha.
Alia Bhatt’s Looks for Cannes 2026

Alia had two looks on the first day of the prestigious festival. She first wore a structured corset ball gown by Yash Patil, with a bodice and spaghetti straps. The upper part of her ensemble also featured a sweetheart neckline.
The lower part comprised a billowing skirt, with a splash of colours across it. For her makeup, Alia kept it minimal. She paired a shimmery eyeshadow look with nude lipstick. She kept her hair side-parted with a bun. As for her jewellery, she only wore statement rings and diamond studs.

For her second look, she chose a pink body-hugging ensemble. It featured a sculpted corseted silhouette, plunging neckline, sweeping train and a dreamy chiffon scarf trailing behind her.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Alia Bhatt will star in Alpha, alongside Sharvari and in Love & War, opposite her husband, actor Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

Two Visions, Two Destinies — Chandrababu Naidu
A TALE OF TWO VISIONS

Chandrababu Naidu’s
Unfinished Revolution How 2004 Changed the Destiny of Andhra Pradesh

One vision transformed Hyderabad into India’s IT capital. The other — a Hardware Manufacturing Hub — was crushed before it could bloom.

VISION REALIZED

HITEC City & IT Corridor

The Software Revolution (1996–2004)

Chandrababu Naidu envisioned Hyderabad as a global technology hub. He personally wooed Microsoft, Google, and hundreds of IT giants to set up operations. HITEC City rose from barren land to become India’s second Silicon Valley — a vision fully realized before 2004.

The IT ecosystem was self-sustaining by the time he left office. No successor could undo what had already taken root.

VISION INTERRUPTED

Fab City / Hardware Park

The Manufacturing Dream (2002–2004)

Naidu’s next leap: a semiconductor & electronics hardware manufacturing park — “Fab City” — near Hyderabad. MoUs were signed, land was allocated, and global chipmakers were in talks. India could have had its own semiconductor ecosystem two decades before the current push.

The 2004 election defeat halted everything. The incoming government deprioritized the project. Investors walked away. A ₹20,000+ crore vision dissolved overnight.

The Timeline of Two Fates

1995
CBN Becomes Chief Minister
Takes office with a radical vision: transform agrarian Andhra Pradesh into a technology powerhouse.
1998
HITEC City Inaugurated
Cyberabad rises. Microsoft, Oracle, Infosys, and hundreds more set up shop. Hyderabad enters the global IT map.
2000
IT Corridor Expands
Madhapur, Gachibowli, and Nanakramguda boom. Bill Clinton visits Hyderabad. The city is India’s tech darling.
2002–03
Fab City / Hardware Park Announced
CBN announces a semiconductor manufacturing hub. MoUs signed with global players. Land acquired. India’s hardware future takes shape.
MAY 2004
Election Defeat — The Fracture Point
TDP loses to Congress-led alliance. CBN steps down. The new government shows no interest in the Hardware Park. Investor confidence collapses.
2005–2010
Fab City Abandoned
Without political backing, investors withdraw. The semiconductor dream dies. Taiwan and South Korea double down on chip manufacturing.
2023–24
India’s ₹76,000 Cr Semiconductor Push
Two decades later, India scrambles to build what CBN envisioned in 2003. The country lost a 20-year head start.

The rupee has lost 55% of its value against the dollar since 2004. A stronger export base could have slowed this bleed.

TODAY’S REALITY (FY 2025–26)

India’s Trade Deficit

India’s total imports reached ~$979 billion while exports stood at $863 billion — leaving a gaping overall trade deficit that pressures the rupee every single day.

Overall trade deficit (FY26)

Merchandise deficit alone: $333 billion. India imports heavily in electronics, semiconductors, and crude oil. Semiconductor imports alone crossed $15+ billion annually — chips India doesn’t make, bought with dollars India doesn’t have enough of.

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN

The $100 Bn Semiconductor Dream

IT services exports hit $421 billion in FY26 — proof that CBN’s first vision became a dollar-earning machine. Now imagine if his second vision — Hardware & Semiconductors — had the same 20-year runway.

+$100 Bn
Potential semiconductor exports

Taiwan exports $100+ billion in semiconductors annually. South Korea: $130+ billion. If India had started in 2004 — with a 20-year head start — it could have built a $100 billion semiconductor export industry by now.

That $100 billion in additional dollar inflows would have:

Rupee Strength
₹70–75 / $ (est.)

The trade deficit would have virtually vanished. The rupee could be 20–25% stronger today.

The Simple Math of a Lost Vision

India’s IT services export today: $421 billion — built from CBN’s 1996 vision in just one state.

India’s semiconductor export today: Nearly $0 — because the 2002 vision was killed in 2004.

India’s semiconductor import bill: $15+ billion/year and rising — paying other countries for chips we could have been making.

India’s total trade deficit (FY26): $119 billion — the single biggest reason the rupee weakens every year.

Had Fab City survived, India could have earned $100 billion in semiconductor exports, slashed its trade deficit to near-zero, and the rupee might be trading at ₹70–75 instead of ₹95.7 today. One election in 2004 cost India two decades and trillions of rupees in lost value.
