The release date for the musical romantic drama Chand Mera Dil is now officially set. Featuring a fresh pairing of Ananya Panday and Lakshya, the film will hit theatres on May 22, 2026. Directed by Vivek Soni, it is being positioned as an intense love story, aiming to make the most of the summer holiday window, a time that has traditionally worked well for emotional, music-driven romances from the banner.

For Lakshya, the film comes at an important point in his career. After gaining strong critical appreciation for Kill and further proving his range with the globally popular series The Ba***ds of Bollywood, he now returns to the big screen in a classic romantic lead role. It also reflects Dharma Productions’ clear intent to shape him into a reliable theatrical star across genres.

Ananya Panday, who has had a consistent association with the production house, continues that journey with this film. The tagline, Pyaar mein thoda paagal hona hi padta hai, hints at a story rooted in intense emotions and passionate love. There is already a sense that the fresh pairing could strike a chord with younger audiences, who remain the core audience for such urban romantic musicals.

Vivek Soni, known for handling nuanced relationship dramas like Meenakshi Sundareshwar, steps into theatrical storytelling with this project. The film is also part of a larger collaboration between Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta, signalling a push to bring big-screen romantic musicals back into focus. About Tumbbad

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the period folk horror film was released in 2018. Tumbbad tells the story of a man obsessed with finding hidden treasure in a cursed village. Set against the backdrop of colonial India, the film visually stunning and deeply haunting that blends greed, mythology, and fear perfectly. It starred Sohum Shah, along with Jyoti Malshe, Anita Date-Kelkar, Rohini Chakraborty, Mohammad Samad and Rudra Soni, among others. It was re-released in theatres last year and received a lot of appreciation from the audience.

Meanwhile, a massive set is currently being constructed in Mumbai, as per Hindustan Times. It will be spread across 7 to 8 acres and will resemble a ‘full-scale city’. It will reportedly be used for the first schedule of the film. Details around the plot has been kept under wraps so far but Sohum will be reprising his role. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has also joined the cast as the antagonist.

Talking about his role, he said, “Tumbbad has always been a film I admired for its originality and atmospheric storytelling. When Sohum shared the vision for the sequel, I liked the story and joined them on their journey.”
