Why Halloween candy costs are surging this year in US

A global shortfall of sugar and cocoa due to poor weather conditions has led to steep prices for Halloween candy this year. The El Niño weather phenomenon could worsen the situation. Wholesale cocoa prices have reached a 45-year high, and sugar prices are at their highest in over a decade, increasing the cost of making treats for Christmas. US consumers are expected to spend 9.2% more on sugar and sweets this year. Candy prices have also risen in advanced economies like the UK and Germany.
