Veteran actor Prakash Raj’s mother passed away at the age of 86 on March 29. According to reports, she breathed her last at the family’s residence. The final rites for the departed soul are scheduled to be held today.
While an official statement regarding the cause of death has not been released, it is reported that she passed away due to age-related ailments. Prakash Raj has been open in the past about the health challenges his mother faced. He previously shared that she had been diagnosed with a brain cyst. The subsequent surgery led to severe memory loss, a difficult period during which she struggled to recognize even her closest family members.

As news of her demise spread, several members of the film fraternity and fans took to social media to express their grief. Among the first to offer his sympathies was actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, Pawan Kalyan.
Sharing his message on X, Pawan Kalyan wrote, “I am deeply saddened to learn that the mother of the renowned actor Shri @prakashraaj, Smt. Suvarnalatha Garu has passed away. I pray to the Almighty that her soul attains eternal peace. I extend my deepest condolences to Shri Prakash Raj Garu, who is grieving the loss of his mother, and to all the members of his family.”
Suvarnalatha’s life was defined by strength and resilience. Born in Karnataka, she was an orphan raised in a Christian family and faced many hardships early in life. In her youth, she worked as a nurse in a hospital. It was there that she met her husband while he was a patient under her care. Their professional bond soon blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Together, they raised three children, with Prakash Raj being the eldest, followed by a daughter and another son.
Despite the personal loss, Prakash Raj remains one of the busiest actors in the country. He was recently seen in high-profile projects like They Call Him OG and Devara: Part 1. He is also set to appear in the highly anticipated Drishyam 3.
Confirming his involvement in the Hindi franchise, he recently posted, “Started shooting for this engaging franchise #Drishyam3 in Hindi. With a wonderful team and a scintillating role to play. I’m sure you will love it. (And yes, I’m not replacing anyone..).”
