Ranveer Singh Helped Create Pralay Reveals Hansal Mehta Actor Reached Out to Kickstart The Film

Ranveer Singh is set to headline Pralay, an ambitious post-apocalyptic zombie thriller that is already generating curiosity for its scale and genre shift.

Now, filmmaker Hansal Mehta has shared a key insight into the project’s origin, revealing that it was Ranveer himself who initiated the process and helped bring the film to life.

According to Mehta, the actor reached out after being impressed with director Jai Mehta’s work and expressed a strong interest in collaborating.

What began as an exploratory conversation gradually evolved into a concrete project, with Ranveer actively backing the idea and pushing it into development. His involvement from such an early stage highlights a more hands-on approach, reflecting his growing interest in shaping stories rather than simply fronting them.

Pralay marks a significant departure for Ranveer, as it ventures into the zombie survival thriller space, a genre that remains relatively unexplored in mainstream Hindi cinema.

Set against a post-apocalyptic backdrop, the film is expected to present a darker, more intense narrative, offering a stark contrast to the actor’s recent, more flamboyant on-screen choices. The shift signals a deliberate move towards more experimental and high-concept storytelling.

Addressing ongoing speculation, Hansal Mehta also clarified that Pralay is not an adaptation of José Saramago’s novel Blindness, despite rumours suggesting otherwise. He confirmed that the film is an original story, written by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, and developed specifically for the big screen.
Directed by Jai Mehta, the project is being mounted on a large scale, reportedly backed by both Hansal Mehta’s production banner and Ranveer Singh’s own production house. With plans to go on floors in mid-2026 and an international crew expected to be involved, the film is shaping up as a major cinematic undertaking.
