The first glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama from the upcoming film Ramayana was unveiled recently, and it quickly became the talk of the town. Ahead of its official release, the makers hosted a private event in Los Angeles, where the teaser was showcased, followed by an interaction with the team. During one of his media interactions in LA, Ranbir confirmed that he is playing a double role in the film.
Speaking to Collider, he said, “Lord Vishnu has different avatars. Lord Rama is one avatar, and Lord Parashuram was an avatar before Lord Rama, and just to get the opportunity to play them both was fantastic.”

Sharing insights on how he differentiated between the two characters, the actor continued, “Apart from body language, if you deeply understand the spirituality, the emotionality of characters, everything starts from there. I think that’s what I did, to really understand who these people are, who these characters are, what they stand for, what their motives are, and then everything becomes easier.”
The teaser reveals Ranbir Kapoor as Maryada Purushottam Rama. He is seen in the avatar of a supreme man, protector and the embodiment of righteousness, dharma and ethical conduct. Maryada denotes the boundaries or righteousness, while Purushottam means the best of men. It signifies someone who follows moral laws perfectly.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being mounted as one of the most ambitious Indian film projects to date. The film features a star-studded cast, including Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshma, Bobby Deol as Hanumana, alongside Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. The project is envisioned as a global cinematic spectacle, with cutting-edge visual effects and a large-scale storytelling approach aimed at reintroducing the epic to modern audiences.
The first part is set to release on Diwali 2026, followed by the second in Diwali 2027.
