The original Malamaal Weekly was directed by Priyadarshan and featured a cast that included Ashutosh Rana, Om Puri and Zakir Hussain alongside Rawal. It told the story of a small village’s obsession with a lottery draw, mixing situational comedy with a slice-of-life backdrop. Over time, the film has been cited as one of the standout Hindi comedies of the 2000s, known for its ensemble cast and sharp writing.
Fans have long speculated about a follow-up, especially as Rawal has continued to remain active in the industry with roles across comedies and dramas. His confirmation of Malamaal Weekly 2 has renewed excitement among audiences who enjoyed the original’s offbeat humour and setting.
While there is no official release date yet, Rawal’s remarks suggest that the creative process is underway and that more updates could be expected as the project takes shape. For now, audiences are left anticipating further details about the sequel’s storyline and casting.
