Del. Don Scott has been chosen as the first Black speaker in the history of the Virginia State House. Scott, a US Navy veteran and trial lawyer, was unanimously elected by the House Democratic Caucus. Democrats recently gained control of the House of Delegates, as well as maintaining their majority in the state Senate. Scott plans to advance progressive priorities during his term, including increasing the minimum wage, strengthening gun-control laws, and many more.
