Haq Trailer: Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi Bring Rights-versus-religion Battle to Screen

Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam are all set to star in Suparn Verma’s Haq, a high-intensity drama inspired by the landmark Shah Bano case. The trailer of the film was launched today in the presence of the cast, director, writer and the producers. The Shah Bano case sparked national conversations about women’s rights, religion, and the scope of secular law in a democratic nation.
The trailer opens with a seemingly blissful marriage between Emraan (Abbas) and Yami’s (Shah Bano) character,  before their relationship takes a drastic turn when Abbas marries another woman. Refusing to share her husband, Yami’s character stands her ground but Abbas divorces her by uttering “talaq” three times.
The conflict deepens when he stops providing alimony for her and their children. Determined not to succumb to the injustice, Shah takes her fight to court. She faces her ex-husband in court as he fights the case as a lawyer against her.

Shah Bano urges the court to see her as an Indian Muslim and requests for secular law to apply on her. But her community, including Abbas, condemns her for defying Sharia. Ahmed stands firm in defending religious law, setting the stage for a charged courtroom drama that explores the intersection of belief, gender, and justice.
