Kannada actress Ranya Rao’s bail plea was dismissed by the Bangalore Sessions Court after her arrest for smuggling Rs 12.56 crore worth of gold. Authorities seized 14.2 kg of gold from her at the airport. Sahil Jain, a Ballari gold dealer, was also arrested for allegedly assisting her.

Union home minister Amit Shah announced that two more Hurriyat Conference affiliates in Jammu and Kashmir have renounced separatism. The groups have embraced the vision of a new India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signaling the decline of separatism in the region. Earlier, two Hurriyat affiliates had similarly abandoned separatism.

This signifies that 920 million people are now covered under at least one social protection scheme, providing welfare and financial security. ILO and labour ministry attribute this growth to government schemes, including health insurance, pension, and employment support, which have benefited millions
